The galactica game brings an experience that is out of this world!

New XBLA Wednesday game announced

We had the original Roboblitz last Wednesday, and it seemed a bit much to hold our breath for Microsoft to release another original game a week later. Well ladies and gentleman, you can breathe a sigh of relief as this week we have Assault Heroes, with a slightly better price point.

The game will feature some online co-op, a nice feature that doesn’t need to be added later. The game will be available for 800 MS Points at the usual time of 1AM EST/8AM GMT/9AM GMT+1 this coming Wednesday.

So what is Assault Heroes?

Assault Heroes is an arcade-style, top-down-perspective shooter in which gamers steer heavily armed 4×4s, drive souped-up motorboats, or go at it on foot against wave after wave of enemies. Armed with weapons such as flamethrowers, grenades, and flak cannons, players can take on the challenge alone or play cooperatively with a friend online or offline.

The game sounds perfect for the Arcade. It’ll provide you with entertainment in short bursts without the need to go back and pick up the storyline from where you left off. There’s bound to be plenty of explosions on offer with all the guns, and we all love playing through games with friends.

I’ve never got really excited about an XBLA title, until now. This game sounds original and looks fun, and I probably won’t bother with the trial come Wednesday and just leap in! Expect a full review following the game’s release.

This looks like a must play.

Finally something that MIGHT turn out right and be what you’d actually expect from an “arcade title”. To me that doesn’t mean retro games or concept games. To me arcade is the kind of game you play in video arcades, pop in a coin, beat as many waves as you can, go home, try another day again.

Arcade games are about progressing as far as you can in one go. The original bubble bobble would be a very nice arcade title for example.

Looking forward to give this one a try.

We needed a good overhead shooter. Can’t wait to play the demo and I’m sure I’ll end up buying it.

I don’t think I even need to point this one out further…

I think Microsoft has been doing a great job with the arcade in terms of variety of games. Of course there is always room for improvement, but if you take a step back and see what MS is really doing here, the mishaps are almost completely forgivable.

As you certainly did understand, BB was mentioned as an example for the type of game that I consider to be “arcade like” and not as a game that should be portet 1:1 to XBLA (which would make it yet another retro game).

So what do you intend to achieve with your remark and out of context quoting ? Appear witty ? Sorry, you failed.

Wow.

No where in your original post do you mention that you’d want Bubble Bobble-like games. You clearly mention, and I qoute

“The original bubble bobble would be a very nice arcade title for example.”

Not “A title like Bubble Bobble would be exactly the type of arcade games I’m looking for”

Sorry Voyager2k, you fail. But please, continue to berate people on the internet to boost your own self esteem bubble.

^ sorry about the bold (and the consequent double post)

Been waiting on this for a while, well, since it was announced anyway. Something the Live Arcade deffinately needs.

sounds & looks good :) Microsoft’s doing well with the arcade now.
If only they’d increase them maximum size of arcade titles, we would have had more content in some games straight away (Roboblitz and maybe Lumines)

3 original arcade games in a row. whos for betting it wont be long before people are complaining about the lack of retro games coming out on XBLA :D

I love Arcade titles… but I’m starting to feel it in the wallet. Not that I think 800 is to much for this game….it’s not…. in fact I think Roboblitz was a reasonable price… considering how much fun I’ve had with it this last week. However I do own 33 arcade titles… and now that my girlfriend knows how to play & check how many games I have…. well it’s caused a few probs. I haven’t had to give so many massages in my life!

sounds like akari warriors with more weapons and no stupid A-B-B-A button combination to come back to life.

looks alittle like the old NES game jackal. with the little jeep.
