Crackdown debuting in January
If you’re excited at the prospect of playing Crackdown because, like me, you reckon it’ll be great, then prepare to get even more excited: a demo of the game will be released on the Marketplace on the 18th of January 2007, a whole month before the game gets released in America.
Never heard of Crackdown until now? Not a problem, Xbox.com has the details:
From Real Time Worlds, Crackdown pushes the action-driving hybrid genre into the next generation with the first ever truly 3-D playground. Level up your Agent’s strength, agility, firearms, explosives, and driving skills while scaling the fully vertical world of Crackdown. This M-rated game incorporates revolutionary co-op gameplay throughout the entire freeform campaign. Creat a volatile cocktail of judicial oppression and clean up the streets of a truly interactive world when Crackdown hits store shelves at an estimated retail price of $59.99.
Basically, it’s a mixture of RPG, Action, Driving and probably some influences from the GTA series, which is never a bad thing. Included in the demo will not only be obviously some single player action, but a nice chunk of co-op play as well, which is rather generous.
I’m pretty excited about this, since I love trying games before they are released like every other person out there. It’s also a day before my birthday, which is a nice early treat, something the guys at Microsoft quite obviously took into account when deciding when to release the content. Given the nature of the game, expect a pretty large download.
There is no mention of whether the download is region specific or not just yet, but hopefully Europe (and the rest of the world of course) will also get to sample the game come the 18th of January.
The game is set for release on the 20th of February Stateside. Also, since Major Nelson himself has confirmed the date of the demo, there is little chance of the demo being delayed.
Thanks SmileyDave for the initial heads-up, and thanks to IMI and Lotus 111s for submitting after I’d finished ![]()

Nice, really looking forward to this game.
Indeed, this is a game that almost brings the fanboy out in me …. ALMOST !!
IGN has a couple new videos about skill development. Sweet stuff. Just watching the videos makes me all wet and horny. I am so praying that they didn’t mess this game up like all the other sandbox games on the 360 were messed up. Please, if there is a god of games, be merciful with Crackdown
It looks so goddamn good and fun … that could well be one of those games you play just for the hell of it and not just to finish it. I do that with Testdrive for example. There isn’t even anything left to do but I still love just driving around, enjoying the scene and trying out some stuff (as limited as that actually is).
Pray with me children of games, fanboys of Crackdown ….. PRAY!
PS: no, i am not drunk!
Co-op online.
Thanks for the heads up. Can’t wait for this one..
Darn, I was hadn’t seen the rating before now and I was hoping it would get a “T”. I’ve got an 11 year-old I’d love to play co-op with. Hopefully it won’t be too graphic and I can talk my wife into letting him play!
Don’t … play it with your son in secret and he’ll love you just for the conspiracy against mom
But of course that’s just one side of the coin. In the eyes of your wife you’re playing with him to make absolutely sure that he is not exposed to anything improper for his age!
So, buy Crackdown and your wife will be happy and your son will love you
Maybe your wife will even toss in a second controller too!
Thats some fucked up logic, but I kinda like to think it might happen.
thought this game might suck no offense
Yay! Let’s hope the dates are the same for Europe.
“first ever truly 3-D playground.”
How on earth can they justify that moronic statement?
Yay! Looking forward to this, the co-op stuff sounds ace.
Go Scottish Development Power!
What makes you think the game might suck Mzero1twoX?
very good
