Update hopes dashed in an Ultra Blast

If like many other people you really enjoy Marble Blast Ultra, and if you were looking forward to the patch that was promised way back in the summer, I’m afraid you won’t like this news: the patch has been scrapped, so the update won’t be released. Why? Find out after the jump.

It seems the developers of MBU, Garage Games, have run into a few problems with their publisher, who obviously didn’t like or agree with what was going to be released. It’s a massive blow, since it was going to be a huge update featuring 11 new maps, which were all going to be free to download.

If I were to guess what the problem might be, I would hazard a guess that the publishers didn’t like the idea of releasing 11 free maps. There would be no money received, meaning designers and programmers of levels wouldn’t be getting much in return for their efforts, and Garage Games would have little to fund this with, meaning the publisher would probably have to provide some extra cash.

This news really should have gone out sooner, I just don’t think anyone wanted to deliver it. I understand the frustration and the let-down, but I do not think, at this point, that there will be a title update to Marble Blast Ultra. I am sorry.

Pretty grim news, as many bugs in the multiplayer were to be fixed too. But that isn’t to say there will be no update or new maps, as the developer has another post on his blog which clarifies the situation:

I just wanted to quickly say that I don’t want to give the impression that there is no chance for the Marble Blast Ultra update. I just wanted to provide a realistic view of the current situation. If there was no chance of it happening, than we would have made an official announcement, and if that turns out to be the case, than one will be made.

I have hope for the New Year.

So it isn’t all bad news, and there is a glimmer of hope yet that we may see some new stuff sometime in 2007. I wouldn’t hold your breath for free maps though, 11 is a huge number not to charge for. However the game has been out for the best part of a year now, do many of you still play it?

Oh well….life goes on I suppose.
I reckon it was Toms wife that killed him not Bob or Jamie. Its either the wife or one of his 3 sons. Jamie, Bob and terry look too obvious so I dont think it is them really…..

Too bad, this is my all-time favorite arcade game. They should just release a sequel with another 60 maps and updated graphics and multiplayer modes. I would buy that instantly.

Fuck. That.

I gladly would have paid 200ish points for new maps in MBU. I loved that game and still get on once in a while. Does corporate greed know no bounds??

Working for a multi-national major Canadian bank I can safely say that “NO” corporate greed knows no bounds. MUWHAHAAAhAhhA!!! Now where’s my bonus?

Why don’t they release the fixes as a patch and sell the map packs….DOH! ¬_¬
