Elder Scrolls IV continues expanding into Oblivion
Proving its namesake, Bethesda’s already massively huge RPG hit, Oblivion, is going to get yet another expansion pack that will reportedly contain 30+ hours of gameplay. Find out its name and some details about this latest expansion after the jump.
Have you already plowed through every possible side quest and closed every Oblivion gate in Oblivion? Have you downloaded all the other downloadable content and are craving even more hack-and-slash RPG goodness? Then this might be the news you’re waiting for: a brand-new Oblivion expansion.
The new expansion is called Shivering Isles, and this is what you can expect:
Revealed in the latest edition of PC Zone magazine, word is that the expansion will offer 30-plus hours of new adventuring, features new quests, monsters, expanded freeform gameplay - quest lines that branch more than before, for example - and a new land “that you can watch change according to your vital life-or-death decisions”.
Setting the scene, it’s explained that an ominous-looking gate has opened in Nibben Bay, the portal leading to a torn realm - the Shivering Isles - ruled by Sheogorath, the god of madness and dementia. Apparently, adventurers will meet the god and “plough through his trials”, but it’s additionally hinted that ultimately we may well be usurping the deity. A ETA of Q2 2007 has been given.

Damn, this makes me sad that I traded in Oblivion. While the content sounds pretty cool, what I’m most interested in is this new land that you can manipulate. There’s no word whether or not this will be a retail expansion disc or if it will be downloadable over Xbox Live Marketplace. Based off past expansions, it could very well appear on the Marketplace, but if it supposedly adds 30+ hours of gameplay, it seems like that would be a pretty large download. No word on price, either, but it’ll most likely be reasonably priced with the other downloadable expansions, fancy, useless decorative skin notwithstanding. Or it could be just a bit more than those packs, since this is a true expansion and not extra downloadable quests.
Okay, Bethesda, thanks for all the downloadable content. Now how about an expansion that adds a co-op option? I’d go out and rebuy another copy of Oblivion just for that!

cool first comment, i cant wate sounds good..PS i love trhis site
No, it’s not cool that you are the first to comment, and yes, you can’t spell.
i’m borrowing this game from a friend and i’m completely loving it. i have NEVER liked an rpg or adventure game before this, even zelda. although, maybe it’s just those damn achievements…probably.
oo a co-cp mode sounds interesting i hope they come out with that
This is great they are delivering a steady decent amount of content for their game this is pretty much what episodic content should be!
Valve I am talking to you here hurry up!!
Great game, been playing it for the past few week. It’s a never ending game with so many quests and sidequests. At 30+ hours gameplay and a new land I would imagine this being a pretty large download, or very well could come pressed on a disc.
Sounds great, but another gate…? I really hated those gates and the whole **** Oblivion realm, so I hope this expansion won’t be like that at all.
Bloody retard kids. Wat the *** is up with ADAPTING enemies. I want a challange, rise and then defeat it. Oblivion is a hit among the kids, vets hate it. If bethesda is gonna destroy Fallout 3 with this system im going terrorist.
Is that after you roll your dice to choose what path you should take?
LMMFAO
Hey this game pwns and I’m no kid.
Would be nice if they actually addressed the issue of the game stuttering like hell, as you accumulate more items towards the endgame and beyond. I ended up selling Oblivion because it became unplayable, and clearing the cache never did help.
I’d rather buy it on the PC now. As Swede said, the game is just not challening enough. Its a good game but adaptive enemies depending on your level is just poor. In Morrowind there were certain areas where I was actually SCARED witless to go. In Oblivion you can run around its carebear land without much worry.
I’ve been playing the free Mehrune’s Razor download and have been enjoying it. My level 3 character has his hands full though with that expansion.
