Live Arcade to be even more Doomed in the future?
Microsoft surprised us pleasantly by releasing Doom, including the extra episode from Ultimate Doom, on the Xbox Live Arcade during their X06 conference in Barcelona. The Xbox Live Arcade version of the game sold well ’cause Siliconera reports on the possibility of Final Doom coming to the Xbox Live Arcade too.
Seeing Doom on the Xbox 360 with online play was a pleasant surprise and it looks like there are going to be more Doom games coming to Xbox Live Arcade in the future. The ESRB has ratings up for Ultimate Doom and Final Doom, which is a strong suggestion that we’re going to see both of these later. Since Ultimate Doom only had one extra episode (Thy Flesh Consumed) it may be an additional content pack for Doom instead of a standalone game.
Edit: It looks like the Xbox 360 version of Doom IS Ultimate Doom, since it contains the editional episode. Thanks to everyone who dropped an e-mail to inform us.
Siliconera discovered Final Doom’s entry on the ESRB site, with the game’s platform listed as ‘Xbox 360′. Final Doom is based on Doom 2 and adds an additional 64 maps, which should be more than enough to make this a retro rehash that we don’t mind paying for. Keep an eye on Xboxic for more updates on this rumor.

Quake 1 multi was AWESOME.
I loved doom on the 360 but the online lag was killing it. I used to play this game over 56k dial up on the PC with less lag than I get on my 4mb line.
Sort it out for doom2 please, and possibly more players than just 4.
Online lag? I should be so lucky… i could barely ever find a game. The only thing stopping me getting the last achievement (100 online kills) is that nobody ever plays it

Anybody have any idea why they’d do Final Doom and not just plain old DOOM 2?
What’s interesting as well is that IIRC, the two Final DOOM wad files together on the original PC version were in the neighbourhood of 40MB, so if they update it for HDTV and the like, how the hell are they going to keep it under 50MB?
