Don’t rely on BT for anything they are the reason we are miles behind the rest of Europe as they couldn’t be bothered to upgrade the exchanges for small towns/rural area’s. That has now changed as they were forced by OfTel to open there exchanges so others ISP’s can upgrade them i.e. Sky Broadband and such like.

It looks like they have some sort of adapter at the HD end of the 360 if so the console will be th eright dimensions, it just has something added to it.

the UK does not have the right market to support ipTV yet. Things will change over time though.
Once the UK’s broadband upgrade (21CN - BT’s 21st Century Network) starts later this year, we might also have the technical ability.

I don’t imagine that MS will make it that difficult to get the IPTV. More difficulty means less customers which means less money for MS and we all know that MS loves to make money. I imagine that something will be sorted out to make it as hassle free as possible.

Well, the rumour of the day is : IPTV service will be available over AT&T’s 35Mbps lightspeed service which would allow for 2HD and 2SD channels to run simultaneously. Though the big problem here is that you’d have to replace your current ISP and cable provider to AT&T. And if you don’t have access to the lightspeed service, then no IPTV for you! Secondly, you’ll need a separate set top box that would work by itself or connected to a 360. So, the 360 still needs a separate set top box to use IPTV. Finally, if you have a home router it will need to be replaced by a special QOS (quality of service) router. Feeling sad yet?
None of this is confirmed.

Hey.Pay attention to Mbps.Mega bits per second.
Not Mega Bytes per second.Lower case b is bits and
that means 1/10 the size of MBps.For HD it will ask for 700KBs Bandwidth (7Mbps).Regular cable
and satellite use Mpeg2.They need double the bandwidth.This means better quality,less bandwidth.Like Divx(Xvid)!

Notice how later in the video, a chair has been moved in front of the 360 so you can’t see it anymore. Was it unintentional or are they trying to hide something. Also, there is something extra sticking off the left side of the 360…Bigger harddrive perhaps? Either way, I would guess that it’s a debug unit, not an actual 360.

I think that the DirectTV thing is dead … that got like 1 mention almost 12 months ago, and not a peep since. Best case is that DirecTV gets into the IPTV bidness, but we see no mention of that here.

I get 24 meg/s in london I guess that should do or is IPTV, but people still need a bigger HDD, I got a US account and download tv seies and movies but the HDD sucks really.

1mb does suck but its the same in many rural places were distance from the exchange means limited speeds, 15 doors down the road cant even get broadband poor sods.

I can’t see it happening in the UK for quite a while with the poor broadband this country has got(my max speed i can get is 1mb), also with the likes of the Premiership tied to a brand new Sky deal for the next 4 years(a driving force behind Sky subscriptions) i certainly will not be paying for yet another TV service to watch shit TV. SkyHD with its 350+ channels is quite good enough for me and none of my mates have said ‘Oh this sucks it switches channels to slow man’ what a load of bollox that comment was. Another thing what if someone else in the house uses the PC to do anything that uses up a bit of bandwidth then your going to get st-st-stuttering. Nice try Microsoft to sneak in and control my living room but nah thanks you have already got my PC to yourself.

anyone know any possible costs? i wonder if it will be like a subdcripton, monthly? yearly? And also this better be released in the UK, USA gets everything, video MP, Earlier Demo’s etc. Not really fair. IPTV is just another step in the right direction:D

I’m not about to convert over to use DSL, when
Cable high-speed is much faster. They really should offer this IPTV as an internet service that can be subscribed to by any internet user; rather than restrict it to their own DSL customers. I’m passing on this one.

as far i know, IPTV will replace Satellital TV in the future , the bandwidth needed to view a channel is 1.5-1.8 Mbps. i suppose iptv works manging a reply for retransmision (in the event of packet loss)directly from the ISP, making this service performance must be reliable, and because of that instant channel change must be easy. anybody tell any information about.

“The IPTV service has to be offered by your cable company.” should really be “The IPTV service has to be offered by your ISP.” This is primarily being driven by phone companies to provide TV over DSL, it wouldn’t make much sense for cable companies which already have well established standards to get TV to you.
