Heavy Weapon next week; XBLA roundup

We haven’t even got Ms. Pac-Man yet, and already we know what is coming for the 17th of January. Heavy Weapon will be shooting the Marketplace up next Wednesday, for the small (rumoured) price of 800 MS Points. There is also new information about Street Trace and some achievement details to get you all excited, right after the jump.

Heavy Weapon was originally released in March of 2005, and there are demos up all over the internet. It’s a side-scrolling game, and you get to shoot lots of different things, meaning this should hopefully be a good title to have in your collection. Boasting Live Co-Op play as well, this title commands a look. And despite the price being a possible 800 Points (which isn’t bad anyway), spare a thought for PC gamers who paid $19.95 for the PC version. Bummer. It could be bumped up to 1200 Points, nothing official has yet been announced, but that is still cheaper than the PC version. The release date is only “scheduled” too, so that may change. There is still no news of when we will be seeing Worms, but Heavy Weapon makes a nice change from all the retro releases we’ve had lately.

In other XBLA news, Street Trace, a hoverboard racing game in the same vein as Trickstyle on the Dreamcast and PC, has received a price tag of 800 Points. Xbox360Fanboy got word, and also found all the achievements, should anyone be interested. Street Trace was announced back at X06, but in case you missed it, here’s a summary taken from the official website:

Grab a custom hover-board and lay trail across the urban sprawl, racing through abandoned streets and battling in war-torn arenas. It is an adrenaline pumping action game that combines both arena combat and racing. Meet the cast of rebel ‘Tracers’ and trick-out your board and weapon through cash and pickup tournaments. Then race, shoot, and grind your way to victory, taking on the circuit champions in single player mode or compete in split screen multiplayer with friends. Take it to the next level and go live, competing against fellow Tracers from around the world. Gain ranking supremacy across a range of over 40 leader boards!

Interestingly, the game will support four players offline via splitscreen, and up to eight players online, according to Xbox.com. So if you missed it at X06, take a look at the official site to see just how promising this looks.

Four player splitscreen will float anybody’s boat

Achievements for four other upcoming XBLA titles have also been uncovered. Worms is first on the list, and it appears the majority of achievements will be gained over Xbox Live, and are a good and enjoyable mix. Settlers of Catan, the first boardgame release coming to XBLA, have some pretty basic achievements that probably won’t take long to get. This is especially true of the achievement “Ambassador of Catan”, which sees you simply Invite someone into a game of Catan, worth 10 Gamerpoints. Are they expecting connection issues, or just feeling generous? Castlevania: Symphony of the Night has some spoilers in the achievements, so don’t read them if you don’t want to spoil anything. Last, but by no means least, is Alien Hominid HD, which range from pretty good in terms of challenging, to almost impossible (see “Perfect Flight” for proof).

There are no release dates on any of the XBLA games (excluding Ms. Pac-Man and Heavy Weapon), but at least we now know what to expect for the near future for XBLA. At least one of the upcoming games will please someone, so everyone should be happy about the news; there is a good mix of genres, and the next few weeks will certainly be fun.

Don’t forget: Ms Pac-Man is to be released tomorrow morning at 9AM GMT.

Thanks to IMI and Sanchez for submitting.

It seems it really is 4 player, not only co-op but versus and Live… MAN this is the first decent 4 player game after that boring ball game…

Wow… I like the iidea of what’s coming up a week ahead of time. Also like the idea of knowing what is likely for the next month… Microsoft needs to do this more often. It helps us breathe easier.

“Worms is first on the list, and it appears the majority of achievements will be gained over Xbox Live”

How is this the case, I only see one XBL-specific achievement (Worm Community - Play a four player Xbox Live Game).
