Ghostbusters on 360? Who you gunna call?

Something strange was leaked into the neighbourhood of YouTube yesterday, but fortunately someone called the Ghostbusters and details have since emerged that the videos were not a mod of another game. The developer Zootfly has today come out and admitted that these videos are indeed of their new game Ghostbusters, for the 360. However things have come to a temporary stop for the moment.

Four videos were leaked yesterday onto YouTube (one of which is above, the other three here, here and here). The footage looks very similar to Gears of War, with the camera changing when you run, and the over the shoulder, 3rd person view also looks very similar. The physics in the game also look excellent, with everything blowing up the way it should.

Unfortunately, things are having to be put on hold at the moment, thanks to licensing issues. Zootfly had this to say on the matter:

“We are very glad to see the overwhelming response to the Ghostbusters prototype movies. What you’ve seen is indeed in-game footage of early prototypes on the Xbox 360, running on ZootFly’s proprietary engine. Due to licensing issues, further development of the Ghostbusters game hit a bump on the road, but everybody here at ZootFly is working actively on resolving the challenges with the owners of the Ghostbusters IP.”

“Not to lose the momentum, a part of the ZootFly team is currently working on an original game called TimeO, which is closely related to Ghostbusters. The game follows the adventures of two die-hard New Yorkers. They get trapped deep in the shadow world of a parallel New York. The city itself is a war machine threatening to wipe out our world and they have three days to stop it.”

At least they are keeping themselves busy, and once the licensing issue has been resolved, the whole team will be switching back to the Ghostbusters project. No release date or anything of that nature has so far been released, so sit tight and wait for confirmation of the licensing being sorted.

I’m not too sure this will happen, because guess who owns the rights?

Is it the people who have just released a new grill? A $600 one for that matter

we gotta cross the streams y’all. i think this is absolutely hilarious. i thought ghostbusters was dead and buried.
since both games take place in nyc, i wonder if they will incorporate GB into timeO if they hit a licensing wall.

Looks pretty good for a prototype!

Game looks extremely good regarding graphics; but gameplay is important too. I wonder if these guys created the game without asking the IP holders first? If so, sounds like a huge amount of time spent wasted on the artwork, likely they can always use the engine and make a new game out of it loosely based on proton packs ;)

Looks super sweet, I hope this happens.

Just FYI, the last two video links (Here and Here) are the same two movies so I’m guessing that you need to fix the third or fourth link so that it’s a different movie URL.

Anyone remember Ghostbusters on the original Sega? That game was great!
