Crysis 360 rumor shot down
The 1UP guys were pretty excited to talk about a downgraded 360 port of Crytek’s PC shooter Crysis during their last podcast, claiming that EA was working on a console port that would be set in the same universe but completely different from the PC version due to the lack of DirectX 10 support on the Xbox 360. Apparently the guy who gave them this info during this year’s CES was running his mouth since EA told IGN that the claim was “was nowhere near an official announcement and expected a retraction to be forthcoming.”.
Think of that guy as the rumor and EA of the guy holding the sniper rifle. However, an Electronics Arts rep disputed the claims. Apparently, there was some sort of miscommunication which led the editors to assume that a 360 version of the upcoming shooter was currently in development. EA’s spokesman confirmed that this was nowhere near an official announcement and expected a retraction to be forthcoming.
Does this mean we’ll never see Crysis in one form or another on the Xbox 360? We don’t think so, Crytek is published by EA and we all know that the word ‘exclusive’ doesn’t exists in EA’s dictionary. Where’s theres smoke, there’s fire and the fact that this EA rep. was able to give some pretty detailed information could indicate that EA is indeed working on a port but isn’t ready to officially announce it. In the meanwhile we’ll have to do with the highly impressive PC version, that takes full advantage of Microsoft’s DirectX 10 platform. The PC version of Crysis is set for release during the second quarter of 2007, keep an eye on Xboxic for news regarding the 360 version; if it’s still coming that is.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
I really dont see what the big deal is about this game anyway. All you hear about is its directx 10 bollocks and nothing about gameplay. Good graphics will only hold up this game for so long, if the mechanics, story and numerous other elements that make up a great game are pants then i for one will be glad i didnt sink £50 on a 360 version.
I think the big deal about this game is that there last game Far Cry, on the PC at least, is one of the best FPS’s made and still after 3years looks awesome on a powerfull PC and above all it has great gameplay coupled to what i think is the best AI i have come up against in a FPS. I for one can’t wait to test my spanky new DX10 card out on this game.
Lol fair point but the farcry game on the 360 was distinctly lacking in my opinion. I havent played the PC version but i heard good things about it.
I suppose the point im getting at is that the PC version will be better than the 360 version (if it ever gets released) so nice one for PC users but there are loads of specifically designed console games coming out which will be awesome in there own right so why get excited about a watered down PC game that may or may not come out on 360.
I agree with that, i would never buy a PC fps that’s been converted over to the 360(dummed down or not) simply because PC Fps’s tend to be designed with a mouse in mind and i will always prefer a mouse/keyboard to control Fps’s. Just the same i can’t imagine how easy GoW would be with a keyboard/mouse as it’s designed for a joypad. Each format needs it’s own games like you say.
I still think Microsoft is gonna come out and say that the 360 can use DX10, but wait till after a few Vista games are out.
This is a good thing. Crysis should be left with the PC. Watered down versions are a rip off anyway. I think Far Cry on the 360 game was the only game I played where I didn’t even want to go for the gamerscore because it was so off from the PC version in terms of playability and quality.
this is rediculous, i work at ea and know the game is due sept.
Poor you
