Bill Gates Shocker: He likes the 360 for online gaming
Bill Gates may be thinking of handing direct control of his mega-company over to younger men in the near future, but that doesn’t mean he wants to miss the chance to take a few pot shots at his console market rivals. Mr. Gates is reported to have given an interview at the recent CES in Las Vegas to Dean Takahashi of Mercury News and it seems he had some very interesting things to say.
In a rather long tirade about the industry in general Mr. Gates said one very important thing which should be of interest to gamers of all backrounds.
“Look at the classic Nintendo positioning. Look at the graphics. Look at Nintendo’s execution in terms of online capability… If you want to play online, get an Xbox. We’re not standing still.”
Brave words indeed. Xbox Live is a very solid service and very popular to boot, but Nintendo and Sony do have their own rather young online gaming services which might start to shape up very soon. Mr. Gates goes on to question his rivals some more, Sony especially:
“Look at what you saw today connecting up the world to the Windows PC. Do you expect Nintendo to rev up a team to create cross-device gaming and tool kits to develop those things? Not very likely.”
“They (Sony) were going to have the Cell be the video processor. But they didn’t know what they were doing… They turned to Nvidia at the last minute, but Nvidia can’t do embedded DRAM.”
“Go look at the bandwidth problems… They took their year and burned it by not having a decent CPU strategy and then turning to Nvidia at the last minute. It’s a very unusual thing. Those processors are isolated from each other.”
Whilst Mr. Gates makes some good points here, this kind of open critique rarely goes unchallenged. Expect something from Sony and Nintendo about how their consoles are the best in the next few days.

Graphics and horsepower mean alot too me , I have all 3 consoles and the graphics/dolby pro logic 2/no online/no dvd playback makes me wish I didnt buy it.

The only reason the 360 is gonna win the console war is because the backing of Windows and Windows Mobile. Live Anywhere and IPtv are really gonna make the 360 a must have mediamachine for a decent price.
Sony’s just cannot compete with the connectivity that Microsoft can offer.
The Wii will most likely burn out in a year or two because of the bad graphics for the hardcore gamers and the kiddy games that lost their originality, because there are only so many ways to hold the controler…

I’ll have to agree here. Xbox Live is amazing in nearly every respect, and kills Nintendo’s online stuff. (Let’s see some Smash Bros. and Metroid, Ninty…)
I haft to agree as well. Nobody will ever touch Xbox Live. Especially once they get it all tied into Vista. If you enjoy online play, get a 360. Simple as that.
Colby, or should I call you Bill; whats so damn wrong with Ps2 or Ps3’s online strategy? (Plus, don’t forget it’s free). Sure you may not have the gamerscore, or player matchups (who uses them anyway??) but they deliver solid titles with solid online play. If you enjoy online play, play online. Don’t limit online play to one console. It’s not as simple as you make it out to be.
Sure free but you may have to pay for de best game maybe $15 or $20 or 25 Ex,15*12=$180yr ps3 and xbox360 $50yr

I can’t see the best titles on the PS3, in fact I see very little titles to speak of so far. What is it about the PS3 fanboy that they look facts in the face and scream liar like some freaky religion.
The Xbox Live community I’ve built over the last year or so is golden. I would not trade it for anything. I have a wii in the house and the whole family, Including me, Totally love it. The PS3 is just not in the picture and never will be. At least for me. (just the way I see it)
I guess the point is, If you’re gonna talk shit, You better be able to back it up. In my mind Bill can back it up. I’m not a total MS fanboy, I just know what I like and what works for me. The 360 is what I like.
I just signed on and with nobody really playin anything I decided to check out the video marketplace.It was there that I found the first 4 seasons of The Twilight Zone for the downloading…any system that can combine my love for TZ and video games is indeed the best…system…ever

Bit shit there is no voice chat online with the Wii though. Think I will buy one around March, but the Wii is for when people are round the house and the 360 is for going online and the PS3 is for evenly cooking your steaks right through in half the time and hassle of a normal grill.

If only the xbox had metal gear it would have been complete for me, if i had the money i would have get all 3 systems, but the problem is if i get all 3 systems i would not have money for games for all 3 systems.
Ladies and gents, XBOX LIVE is like crack. I Played ghost recon once on the original xbox and have not stopped ever since. With the latest movies and shows downloads all at your fingertips you never have to get up from the sofa. I am gonna invest in couch potato stock…

I’m not a ps3 fanboy by any means. In fact, quite the opposite. I’ve purchased 3 xbox 360’s this christmas season alone. What facts are you talking about? Bill’s opinions? The only fact I see is the 10M headstart due to a ONE YEAR HEADSTART ON THE COMPETITION. The wii will easily surpass this number when it is in stock within 6-12 months.

As far as i’m concerned the 360 has a bloody LONG LONG way to catch up with the PC. I can find a good game within in seconds with my PC, no trash talking fucking Americans to annoy me, no lost connection bollox, and certainly no RANKED shit to contend with. I love my 360 but the online lobby’s and many other aspect’s need alot of fine tuning before i’m convinced. As for the PS3 i couldn’t care less what anyone says i think if i had to put money down on who will win this generation it would be on the PS3.

u beeznatches… PC GAMING ALL THE WAY… more control… customizing… usually already more graphically capable than consoles… the only reason u should have a console is so u can play some games that don’t come out on computer and actually PAY for your games to support developers developing good games instead of downloading full pc games from torrentspy. nuff said u diddling goofs
you must have missed the fact that the PC gaming market has crashed due to the cost of hardware. have you noticed that there is not a single game on the pc that utilizes the newest Graphics Cards? why do you think that is? jump on the bandwagon and move to the console like over 50% of pc gamers have already done.
