The galactica game brings an experience that is out of this world!

Japan likes Gears of War, honest!

It’s turning out to be a complete day of surprises. Sony have announced that the PS3 is on schedule for a March 23rd release in Europe and now even more surprisingly we can reveal that an Xbox 360 game has sneaked into Japan’s Top 10 weekly video game charts.

Gears of War

When we first noticed Japan lining up for Blue Dragon we put it down to a one off. We refused to believe that it may have been the turning point for the Xbox 360’s endless struggle to convince Japanese gamers. Yet today we sit in shock as we watch an Xbox 360 title (a western one too!) boom its way into the Japanese charts. The title is Gears of War and its position is #7. Although 7th place doesn’t sound spectacular, one must bear in mind that this is a western shooter, the Japanese just don’t like western shooters.

When we first saw the above movie of Gears of War in Japanese, we thought something didn’t add up. The near girlish squeals of the voice acting made us think “well, no wonder the Japanese don’t like these games”. Clearly we thought wrong, the Japanese appear to like it. Could the Xbox 360 finally be making an impact on the Japanese market? We don’t think it’s quite there yet but with these recent events, pinch me please, I must be dreaming!

I wish people would stop stereotyping a nation on past information. The whole ‘Japan doesnt like Western shooters’ line is clearly not applicable in modern day circumstances.

Good luck with that Poo,
People have been stereotyping nations for a long ass time now, and you gotta be fucking naive if you think its going to stop…not to mention, statistically, the eastern part of the world (Asian countries predominately) don’t buy shooters, they stick to RPG, Puzzle, Action genres. Thats statistics, not stereotypes.

Comment by po0 on 2007-01-25 13:41:24 | Reply

Well apparently its not statistics anymore according to the fact GOW is currently sitting in number 7 in the charts.

I can asure you im not naive to the way the world works just tired of ignorant fools who cant stop living in the past.

Times they are a changing people but im sure there will still be people in 20 years time saying things like‘Japan doesnt like Western shooters’ when the chances are half the shooters that will come out will come from the eastern part of the world.

It sitting at 7 IS a statistic you fucking retard, what do you think it is? a stereotype? yeah, “7″ is a stereotype. What about the other 9 games in that top ten? I didn’t read the list but I am almost positive that Gears is the ONLY FPS on that list so what are you going to make of that?
It is not stereotypical that they don’t like shooters, stereotypical is they all eat rice and are less than five feet tall. So you obviously are naive in they ways the world works, because you don’t even know what a fucking stereotype is!

Er, Gears of War isn’t an FPS

So Gear of War is a stereotype ?

:)

YES IT IS! Resident Evil 4 was too. >:0

I sometimes accidentally say “FPS” for Lost Planet, too. Sometimes shooter=FPS.

Yea, they aren’t to into shooters for real. I only know a few people that have even heard of Halo, let alone gears.

I remember reading that it’s not that they don’t like FPS’s it’s more the case that it gives lots of them motion sickness, just as some westerners suffer from RPG sleep’itess ;)

Dude who shit on your cornflakes. Get a clue already.

My point was that the fact that it is in the charts in the top 10 shows that they obviously arent that objective towards shooters as some may believe - That is now FACT.

Stop being a up yourself twat for the sake of being an up yourself twat.

Anybody who knows anything about console games and been around for more than a hot second would know that Western games don’t make money in the east. Whether they like them or not is another issue but they sure don’t buy them. The track record speaks for itself. Maybe it’s changing but any dummy can see that this is not the norm.

Comment by po0 on 2007-01-25 15:57:38 | Reply

Its not the norm but it is changing, that was my point.

Play some Riiiiiiiiiiiiiidge Racer. I rented it, and no one was talking because most didn’t speak English :(

Comment by acromyth on 2007-01-26 05:12:11 | Reply

Please don’t say “Japs”. At least say Japanese.

Comment by The_Glovner on 2007-01-26 12:50:07 | Reply

Apologies but I really don’t consider it racist in anyway. It’s just a shortening of their nationality, just like I wouldn’t be offended if someone refferred to me as a Scot.

They are all still playing Lost Planet. I havent played Gears in about 2 weeks because of Lost Planet :(. IM GOING BACK TO GEARS TODAY lol.

Comment by The_Glovner on 2007-01-25 18:48:46 | Reply

Just can’t get into the online for lost planet.

Doesn’t give the same sense of tactics and organisation as GoW. Just feel like you are playing a 1 player at the same time as a lot of other people.

So all those Japanese guys kicking my ass on COD3 last week don’t like FPS’s, huh? Especially considering COD3 hasn’t offically been released there yet. Most of the gamer tags listed RPGs on games played, at least the games listed in English.
