An Unreal announcement: UT for 360
If you ever doubted that the next incarnation of Unreal Tournament was coming to the 360, you have been proven incorrect in your judgement. Announced by Epic today, they are developing the game for the PS3, PC and, oh yes, the Xbox 360. Originally titled “Unreal Tournament 2007″, it has now received a name change as well.
The game is now called “Unreal Tournament 3″, despite this being the fourth game in the UT series. The reason for this? Well, it may hint that the game won’t make it out in 2007 is a possibility, although IGN state the game is set for release during the second half of 2007. Another reason may be due to the fact that, rather unsurprisingly, the game uses the Unreal 3 engine. The last possibility is that the 2004 iteration was not a true successor to the 2003 version, and was more of an add-on pack than a true sequel.
Whatever the reasoning, this is great news. Some may not be surprised to see this announcement as Epic, who develop the UT games, saw their game Gears of War do quite well on the Microsoft console. Therefore it makes prefect sense to bring it to the 360.
What can you expect from the game then? Well, Xbox Live implementation is a no brainer; this game works really well online. The usual modes will be there, including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag. These modes will be joined by a new mode named Warfare, as well as some others. Also, online co-op is also planned, which again hasn’t been seen before in any version.
Of course, what makes this game work as well as it does is the ridiculous-yet-enjoyable weaponry on offer. When the game arrives, there will be more than 24 different weapons to use to make sure you’re the one that’s “DOMINATING!” online. Two new weapons are the long-range Shock Rifle and the shorter range Flack Cannon. Other upgrades will naturally be the graphics, as well as better AI, which is now more aggressive and intelligent over the previous versions.
This is great news for anyone that loves the series (like this writer), and it finally means no more upgrading your PC to play it, which suits me fine. Hopefully we will see the game this side of Christmas, because it’s a game many simply cannot wait to get their hands on. Check out the latest video from IGN here.

i knew it!!!! w00t w00t!!!
This is an awesome announcement bring it on…and another PS3 exclusive slips away quietly….
It was and is going on PC as well, so not an exclusive in the true sense.
the term Exclusive as used by most if not all companies has always meant console exclusive and up until this announcement UT was “console exclusive” (read:Exclusive) to the PS3. So im going to go with the Another one slips away form sony comment
Fair enough
another exexclusive for sony
it had better include the gametype where you capture all the power nodes, i dont remember what it’s called but it’s my favorite online objective gametype. also, put UC2 on the BC list please!!
great news for 360 owners and yet another blow to sony
finally confirmed
now to kill ps3 all the way is to port mgs4 on the 360
Very nice. Very nice indeed.
Jagsmemash!
I learn it from a book.
I was right all along

I think the PS3 would need to loose final fantasy too in order for it to not sell millions. that game sells more consoles in japan than MGS does. And besides, the xbox 360 really needs the RPG’s (the japenese RPGs that is).
This game will certainly be the worst in the series. The UT games are some of the fastest FPS games there are. A controller just doesn’t cut it, and autoaim would kill the series.
Was not the sniper rifle and the flak cannon already included in the first Unreal Tournament?
Yes, of course both guns are old friends.
As for Billqvist’s comment… I’ll talk to you when the game is out.
Actually I doubt it, but still, you’re wrong about this going to be the worse game.
People doubting an Xbox 360 release have not been proven wrong, only people saying it wouldn’t happen have.
Quote: “the game uses the Unreal 3 engine”
No, it doesn’t, it uses the Unreal TOURNAMENT 3 engine.
Unreal is a different game, and Unreal 3 doesn’t even exist… not yet anyway.
The engine is actually called Unreal Engine 3, the third version of the thing.
If microsoft just released a driver that enabled you to use your xbox 360 with a mouse and keyboard…it would be perfect. No one would longer bit** about the xbox controller sucking for FPS games. Seriously, if only microsoft did this, no one would also bit** about the xbox 360 controller not being good enough for RTS games. Microsoft should do this, then no one would bit** about auto-aim in games that can link xbox 360s and pcs. Think about the possibilities.
xfps 360 can already be used for xbox 360
then u can use ps2 joystick or mouse + keyboard
for many xbox 360 games just look it up at www.youtube.com and search for “xfps 360″
hope this helps u BobVu
