[Update]Def Jam: Icon demo NOT coming Thursday

We’re being treated very well these last couple of weeks, first we get a Battlestations: Midway demo followed by Crackdown, and now there’s another one. According to Gamespot, a Def Jam: Icon demo will be released on the Xbox Live Marketplace this Thursday. Even though the game will be released simultaneously on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in March, the demo is exclusive to Xbox 360 users.

UPDATE: EA told Gamespot that the demo has been postponed until further notice. The demo will be available soon, but they couldn’t say when. The reason behind the delay was that they want to coordinate a worldwide release for the demo.

The single-player demo will feature 2 fighters: Big Boi, who is also known as one-half of Outkast, and the second fighter is T.I. You’ll be able to fight with those two on the Gas Station level in a timed match. We’re not entirely sure on how to interpret ’single-player’ but the possibility of a match between 2 players on the same console could be an option. The two songs that have been included to keep you kicking are “Kryptonite”from Purple Ribbon All-Stars featuring Big Boi and “Top Back” from T.I. A few of the key features for the game are listed below.

  • Music is Your Weapon—Beats trigger interactive hazards around you as your environment comes alive and reacts to the music. From exploding gas pumps to spinning helicopter propellers, taking advantage of your surroundings is just as important as your toe-to-toe fighting skills. Become one with the beats to rule the streets.
  • DJ Controls—Use the analog sticks like turntables to add beats, switch songs, and make music your weapon. Take control of the music to control the outcome of the fight!
  • Become a Hip Hop Icon—The story mode will allow you to build an empire and live the life of a music mogul by signing artists, managing their careers, and releasing their hit songs. Do whatever it takes to become an icon in the world of hip hop. But beware—you never know who is watching you.
  • Hip Hop’s Hottest Stars—Fight with or against the biggest stars in hip hop. Artists like Big Boi, The Game, Ludacris, Paul Wall, T.I., and more are all instrumental in your building a record label and becoming a hip hop icon.
  • Online Gameplay* – Go head to head with friends across the country for the ultimate hip hop showdown.

Are you looking forward to some next-gen rapper slapping?

Hm-mm Marketing strategy. Why release demo’s for to major game simutainiously. That’s not a good idea especially since NBS: Streets comes out a month before DEFJAM:ICON does. We’ll see that demo after Streets hits the shelves.

I liked the other def jam games, but seriously music is your weapon sounds like a really lame idea to me, why not just beat the shit outta each other

I’m sure many are looking forward to this game. I’m not. Glad for the demo so I can test it out before making a quick judgement. I give credit for trying to add soemthing new to the fighting genre. I don’t think this was what I had in mind but who knows…it might work. We’ll see on Thursday.
