Battlefield to the Future

Dan Blackstone, senior producer for Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, dropped a few hints regarding the direction of the next installment in this successful franchise. They started in the past, they are currently at the present, and indeed they are heading for the future.

Kotaku reports that Dan dropped in an interview that “3213/3X2… or said another way: S.R. 4588164†would give gamers some hint about the direction of Battlefield. The first sum indeed yields 2142 on my version of calc.exe, which also shows 4588164 when I multiply that result by itself: S.R. stands for square root, as Shacknews readers found out. So expect Battlefield 2142 to be announced soon.

I agree with you UltraClart, battlefield 2 for the xbox was one of the best online games I have played. I can only imagine how great it would be on the PC with all of the extra features. Can’t wait for it on the 360.

Sorry, theyre just too slow, you know full well that Halo3 will be better and be more popular.

I played Halo for little over 30 minutes before I decided it sucked and thus never bothered to try Halo 2, and I’m still wondering why people always worship that series blindly up to the point where they’ll say a Halo game that has NO info out, NO screenshots, no nothing, is going to be better than a random other game that has NO info out, NO screenshots, no nothing :o

Halo 3 may very well rule Battlefield 2142. I’ll see which is better though when both games are finished and out on the shelves.

hahahaha Curry, that could be the dumbest thing anyone has ever said about Halo. It probably just means you suck at it. “Halo sucked”….hahahahhaha–wow, you should be banned from video games for life. Thanks for making my day with that comment.

Yes, we all know that just because someone doesn’t agree with your opinion on a game or thinks that a game sucks and you like it they should be “banned from video games for life”

/sarcasm

I enjoyed Halo. It was a decent FPS but it was nothing new to the genre.

Halo and Halo 2 have totally dominated the FPS genre since they came out. It’s not my opinion, it’s Curry’s ignorance that is so amazing. It is hilarious.

They have dominated the FPS genre on the Xbox. Nothing more.

Curry has a very bad taste in videogames, obviously ;). But I”ll make sure Curry plays both Halo and Halo 2 from start to finish before the end of this year, mark my words :D

If Halo only rules the FPS genre only for Xbox,
why is it that EVERY other platform (even PC) has a game that has tried to copy it, yet FAILED.

DONT U DARE SAY BATTLEFIELD IS BETTER BECAUSE IT IS NOT, ITS SLOW AND BORING AND HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH EA. EA=SHIT.
EA=RUINING GAMING.

Have a nice month…

TRIGGER M4N,

Halo was not the first of it’s kind. Sci-Fi FPS games have been around long before Halo. It’s nothing new. Nothing is trying to copy it. You can say that about all games. Every game is trying to copy every other game.

Trigger m4n please respect opions of each other. I think bf2 on pc is great. Never tried it on xbox though. Tastes can differ. Halo isn’t my game either. I played the single player campaign and I got so bored I bought dead or alive extreme beach volleyball and kotor. On mp I dont even try to compete with good player because I simply can’t.

TRIGGER M4N I will agree with you on that. :-)

Halo hardly owns the FPS genre, try Unreal Tournament on a PC. There’s no comparison… Halo hasn’t a chance and Halo 3 will not by any realistic luck be able to beat what Unreal Engine 3 will be capable of.

ZZ; Both are completly different games (just like BF2) so you can’t really compare any of these games, eventhough they are all FPS games. And I don’t care what engines are capable of ;) (and even if I did, we’ll see a whole lot of Unreal Engine 3 games on the Xbox 360 :))

vandenbond: “hahahaha Curry, that could be the dumbest thing anyone has ever said about Halo. It probably just means you suck at it.”

Well, if my remark was the dumbest thing anyone ever said about Halo, your reply must surely be the dumbest thing anyone ever said about video games in general. I’ve been playing thousands of games since 1984 and seen every true revolution like Wolfenstein (1992), Lemmings (1991?) and Quake (1996) happen. Halo was never a revolution, it was sure a nicely executed FPS, but the zillionth futuristic sci-fi FPS with vehicles and some lame story about the earth being destroyed blahblah. The story didn’t grip me for a bit, so I dropped it and forgot about it. I actually remember I didn’t die once during the time I spent with it and did complete a few levels, so at the very least I didn’t suck at it.

Does it matter? No, just means I’m one of the people who didn’t like Halo, like millions of other people out there. Just like I like RPG’s and many many people don’t. Just like many many people like sports games and I don’t.

People are different and can have different tastes. For assuming someone to be an idiot because they do not share your taste, you have only proven yourself a narrow-minded idiot.

As for the other comments, I tend to agree with TRIGGER M4N that GoW looks like it’s going to rule from the gameplay videos, screenshots and hands-on reports I’ve seen. When Bungie starts releasing gameplay videos, screenshots and allows hands-on reports on Halo 3 we may have a chance to compare the games, although they are wildly different genres. Until then every comment stating Halo 3 will rule or suck is just based on dumb fanboy bullcrap. I mean, we haven’t even seen a single static pixel of the game :D

btw since this newspost is on Battlefield, please consider taking the offtopic discussion about whether Halo 3 or Gears will rule Xmas sales charts to our forums :)
