Ikaruga coming to the 360?
Ikaruga, for those of you who have never heard of it before, is a rather good scrolling shooter for the now defunct Dreamcast system and the equally dead Gamecube. The developer of the game Treasure seem to think that the term ‘third time lucky’ applies to the title as rumour has it then intend to bring the game to the 360 arcade.
Ikaruga was quite well respected by most gamers who managed to actually find a copy to play, and its simple but intoxicating ideal of a black and white combat system (when you are a white ship you can absorb white bullets but are vunerable to black ones and vice versa) was a dash of originality in a very well developed and somewhat ancient genre. The rumour has it that the game is already available (in an unplayable form) on Partnernet, the Xbox Live test server used by bigwig journalists and designers.
If this rumour is true it would be an awesome addition to a the rather slender pickings of the Arcade so far - Nintendo have a far wider selection of retro titles out already, so perhaps Microsoft are planning to step up their releases a gear. Other than that, we are told the game will be a long time coming even if the rumour is true due to reports that the code is very early (hence why it is unplayable) and that Treasure have been rumoured to be working on a shooter due out in a long time.

From the time I played my first game of Geometry Wars on XBL Arcade, I always said Ikaruga belongs on there. This would be a dream come true.
However, this game is tough without a good dpad, something the standard 360 controllers lack.
Hopefully MS will release a joystick sometime.
This game was great on the GC. It would make you pull your hair out. (in a good way)

This is one of the best games I’ve ever played in my life… certainly in the top three Dreamcast games ever, along with Shenmue and Rez. If this comes out then I’ll be very happy indeed!

All worm nuts should calm down. It’s only a game and it is coming. Plus I think the reason for the story is to tell us that Ikaruga (a cool game BTW) might be coming to XBL rather than “it’s coming before worms”

I would suggest this game is unplayable because it is so stupidly difficult.
Bought it on import on the GC and it was just silly.
I hope it doesnt have the fucked up screen options like on the gamecube. Great game though.
Mars Matrix isn’t even in the same league with Ikaruga. Ikaruga (Project RS2) featured stunning gameplay, vibrant and beautiful graphics, and a thrilling soundtrack, and huge replay value. Mars Matrix was an average TDS at best.
By the way I found Ikaruga on the now defunct SuprNova.Org and it was self booting. Only a 17MB download. It was incredible. If you have a dreamcast download a copy and burn it to CDR. You will not be dissapointed.
Radiant Silvergun should also be brought to the Live Arcade. Treasure why don’t you guys just unload your whole catalogue of great games on Live Arcade.It would also be nice to see some old classic genesis/sega saturn games like streets of rage, ecco the dolphin, Sonic(s)clockwork knight, panzer dragoon, burning rangers, Nights. All of these games would sell like crazy.
