Xbox Live not so Live soon
Major Nelson has announced that as of 02:00 PT on the 20th February, Xbox Live will not be functioning, along with the “My Xbox” part of Xbox.com, whilst the forums enter a “Read-Only” mode meaning you cannot post, only read. A tad annoying considering Crackdown is released at midnight in the US.
From the Major:
On Tuesday February 20th from 0200-0500 PT Xbox Live will be offline for maintenance. As a result, the ‘My Xbox’ section of Xbox.com will be unavailable, and the Xbox forums will be in read only mode (you will not be able to post.) The remainder of Xbox.com will be available for your browsing pleasure.

This is for maintenance only, there will be no new features that will appear on Xbox.com, your dashboard or Xbox Live when we return to service.
So, to recap: This is all for server maintenance only.
It’s nothing special then, and it certainly isn’t the Spring update (since we aren’t in Spring, obviously), so it isn’t anything to get excited about. It’s the middle of the day in Europe, so most people will be working, unless you’re unlucky enough to have a day off. Unfortunately for Americans, this comes two hours after Crackdown officially launches. So if you had planned to pick up the game from a 24 hour store and have a massive Co-op session with a friend, you will be rudely interrupted just two hours in. You’ll just have to sleep instead!

So this means that xbox live wont be back up until at least thursday right?
Everytime they quote a small maintenance time they fuck up and it is down for days.
They have been timing these things for release dates of big games too.

Most small downtimes were over before the predicted time.

They never say how much or how little they do.

I don’t normally use Xbox Live from 5 to 8 in the morning so I’m fine. Maybe at 8, but I’ll just use my Wii this time.
Seriously, guys, you can play offline for an hour or two…
Of course we can play offline or not at all for a few hours.
The point is that they will mess it up yet again and it will be down for DAYS.
Relax…..i talked to microsoft today and they said that worms is going to cost 2000 ms points, and that Rsix vegas map pack wont have any new maps,only one new gun and that is saddam husseins golden AK-47.
The map pack without any maps will cost aprox 1600 MS points
and i play so much Halo that my eyes bleed.

Just like last time I got home from work to relieve all my stress on fellow gamers, I was surprised to see that live was down STILL. well this time I won’t be that surprised since I know that there won’t be live and some people will have bricked 360’s reguardless of what maintenence they do. C’mon Microsoft you got Sony knocking on you door, don’t let them knock it down. You got alot of a good thing going.

I just sold my 360 on ebay an preorder my PS3 LONG LIVE TO PS3: Free online gaming and HDMI support. not the ugly brick that don’t really do 1080p.
Maybe you should pick up a cheap PS3 on eBay while you’re there. And PS3 has been ‘offline’ since launch. What’s the point of free when you get nothing.
and the fact PS3 servers are flopping, hench project 8 having no online on PS3, and im sure other games have opted out of going online with PS3, too many problems, yeah PS3 may have the superior graphics but xbox live will ALWAYS destroy playstation online, this kinda pains me to say as i used to be a pure playstation bod, hated the orginal xbox..but it is true. i was so looking forward to getting a ps3…but it just seems like theres less and less point every day, metal gear 4 coming 360, highly likely devil may cry 4 will too based on the sucsess of capcoms only 2 games to come out on 360 so far.
R6 Vegas got moved back on PS3 because of online problems too

who said ps3 has superior graphics at the moment??, all the comparisons ive seen the xbox looks better
dont know what youve been looking at then, but everything i have seen does look slightly better on ps3, not that its an overly noticable difference, and definatly not deserving of being the soul reason for buying a ps3, but at the moment its the only thing i can think of ps3 beats 360 on…oh that and the HDD. OH, Anyone that hasnt checked yet, it didnt fuck up for days, lives back. so all the americans can get to co op crackdown, and the rest of us can stop bitching about live not being there even though most people who did bitch wouldnt have even been using it at the time anyway.
Anyway… Xbox-Live is back up.
oh well who cares… crackdown is a shitty game anyway… it’s not the end of the world people… please..
