According to German site cynamite, debug 360’s have been given a software update by Microsoft that slows down the disc drive speed, meaning playing games is quieter. A revolutionary breakthrough, but will consumers see it?
Chances are we will, perhaps when the Spring update hits. Microsoft always try and have one big thing that everyone wants to see in both the Spring and Fall update. Last Spring saw background downloading, whilst the Fall update saw 1080p made a possibility. So is a quieter drive the next big thing?
Microsoft found a way to reduce the noise of the Xbox360 clearly by a software update. (Their emphasis)
Microsoft delivers since short one a software update to the technical literature, which makes the Xbox360 substantially quieter. The possibility is given by the update to the play manufacturers to drive the drive assembly speed down of the box. So far the drive assembly always runs with plays with full speed - or not at all.
Up-to-date the update functions only on special Debug boxes. We assume however Microsoft immobilizes also conventional Xbox360-Konsolen shortly by updates.
Since the site is German, the above is a translation, not a poorly worded article. Cyanite also point out that the loading speed of a game may take a hit, since the drive is spinning slower, so the data is reached slower. Is that a worthy sacrifice, or would you rather have faster load times and turn your surround sound up that extra notch? Let us know below.
