Crackdown dev wants to do Crackdown 2
It hasn’t even been a week since the first game was released but in a recent interview with Computer and Video Games, senior designer Stephen Iannetta told CVG that he would love to make a sequel to Realtime Worlds’ open ended 360 game Crackdown. If there was a sequel, he’d like players to have even more options at how to approach missions and to include a more believable city.

We’ve learnt some lessons and if we did do Crackdown 2… I’d love to see it happen.
I think again it comes to how you can really choose how you approach the missions, and I’d really like to turn the contrast up on that. I’d really like to look at giving the players so many options at how they can do it.
In the interview which can be read here, Iannetta also mnetions that he’d like to make more believable, functioning city for Crackdown 2 and that he thinks that if there’s one thing we can learn from making Crackdown it’s that it’s the city that makes the fun. I personally agree with his statement that it’s the city that makes it fun because if you were to play in a city where you couldn’t make the jumps from rooftop to rooftop and you had to climb down one building to climb up another, it’d get very boring.
However, would you buy a second Crackdown game or did you only buy the first for the highly anticipated Halo 3 Beta? Is it your opinion that Crackdown gets boring as it is or would a sequel be at the top of your wish list? Personally, I would buy a sequel to Crackdown because I’m not interested in it only for the Beta and I feel that Crackdown is a great laugh with or without friends.

Do it! Do it! Do it!
crackdown is a sick game…annyoing how i dont have it yet..but i get paid friday;-) im not even bothered about the BETA…like..at all, so hells yeah crackdown 2
What Realtime Worlds should really focus on is expanding the options and modes for the existing game. The city in this first Crackdown is begging for additional modes, skins( I don’t care what the devs say, there should be at least one female skin ), weapons, cars, any object that the players uses that could add more variety to what you can do. For examples:
1) Similar to the ‘official’ addition of Cat & Mouse in PGR3, Crackdown could have a co-op “Tag” mode available in future DLC. Allow for using weakened versions of the seeking rocket launcher or provide in-game paintball guns. Set a time or tag limit. Let the comedy begin.
2) Create-a-Challenge mode. Similar to TD:U’s custom free-race challenges where you pick whatever route you want. In Crackdown, let the player design an Orb hunt, Agility or Driving Challenge by placing orbs or waypoints, letting the challenge creator test and set a time limit then upload the challenge on LIVE. Endless possibilities here.
3) New Challenges designed by the developer. Last night, a Friend and I decided to play Sanitation engineer. We grabbed two flatbed trucks from Volk territory, drove them to Los Muertos territory by the beachfront, loaded each one with explosive barrels( we managed to cram 18 into each truck ), we drove back to Volk and detonated( actually the VOlk shot at us ) the cargo. That would make another hilarious ‘official’ game type. Set a time limit. Leave the peds and Agency police aggression( my buddy got his truck blown up early because he hit a few peds and the cops chased him down). Make the criteria customizable: 5 min., whoever can load the most barrels and take them to point A in Gang X’s territory and detonate.
The first game has so much untapped potential. They shouldn’t even be worried about a sequel yet. Build up Crackdown. Max out the possibilities. Nuture the user community. Then worry about Crackdown 2.
Maybe they can attach the Crackdown 2 beta to the Halo 3 release.
Love this game.
lol
Or, better yet, include a Gears of War II beta in Crackdown II.
Yeah, Do It!!!
Hopefully with a story next time
Yeah do it, buy not yet. I’d like more downloadable content for CrackDown1 first. Online deathmatches maybe
I’d buy it. Let see it happen. I’ve been having a lot of fun with Crackdown. An improved sequel would be even better.
Mail can’t come with this game soon enough.
Make it more a superhero game, with super-villains and more RPG elements. And have multiple storylines that run independently. Vary objectives. But the core gameplay and controls are excellent. Number 2 could be AAA if they go for it as the most difficult things are in place.
If this game had a little more of the RPG element in it, that would be tops. What I’m thinking is having more ablility to customize characters appearance AND abilities. Witnessing and feeling your character evolve into a beast should be as awesome as the city.
There should be some sort of tracker of activity, perhaps, and more statistics.
For weapons, the lock on feature needs improvement.
yeah if you aim right at a barrel then it shouldn’t go and aim at an enemy & dead-body-lock-on is annoying sometimes
Yeah, locking onto a dead body is annoying. They are dead: they don’t need to be shot again.
I’ve spent all week playing this game. I love it.
I love Crackdown, and have been filling my weekend with nothing but the sounds of sirens and explosions which has annoyed the rest of my household…only slightly. It’s a great title through and through, though…yes, I agree with sCHOCOLATE about the lack of female agents being playable, and the challenges mentioned were good ideas.
Would I buy a Crackdown 2 (or whatever they’d call it)? Definitely! I have tossed in easily 18 hours so far into the game and I foresee many-many more just this week alone.
I am getting Crackdown today, with the Halo 3 beta, and I couldn’t care less about Halo 3. Crackdown seems to be a fantastic game.
By the way, I agree with the lockon feature. Locking onto the corpses is just plain stupid. At least it could be an option, whether one wants to do it or not.
I am going to buy this game, cause i want to play the halo beta. and to increase my gamerscore. i really don’t like this game.
Please say you’re just kidding…..You are kidding right?
i hate how some people are so fixated with gamerscore…its so lame… all a gamerscore shows is how many games you have/how much you play 360. buying games you dont like just for gamerscore is plain pathetic, and i feel sorry for you for being such a lame person if youre serious about doing that
wow!° if crackdown makes me play 7 hours/day maybe crackdown2° will make me play 10hours/day thats sick and i only have 15 years NOTE: I HAVE 1200 GAMEPOINTS IN THIS GAME
well i think if they make crackdown 2 that will be great but the gameplay is not the great thing you can d it better and i hope they don’t put achievements like orb hunter thats sick
in my opinion, the gameplay MADE the game. being able to leap from building to building raining homing missiles down on hapless thugs was what made this game shine. if you take the mechanics out, what do you have? a sandbox? and a LOT of my friends have been having a blast hunting orbs. not my cupotea either, but hey, it adds a LOT of exploratory replay value.
