Oblivion ends at Shivering Isles
The fantastic world of Oblivion was unleashed on the Xbox 360 nearly a year ago, and developer Bethesda has shown great dedication to their product by releasing a seemingly endless stream of downloadable content. Upcoming expansion Shivering Isles will however not only be the first, but also the last true expansion to the epic.
OXM caught an interview with Bethesda’s Peter Hines in 360 Gamer Magazine, in which he is quoted as saying:
Work pretty much started on Shivering Isles once Oblivion was done. We started looking at what we wanted to do, where we wanted to set it, all that stuff. It pretty much started last March. Shivering Isles is our last big thing: it’s our first and last expansion for Oblivion.
For those aching for more content in the saga this spells bad news, but Hines refuses to elaborate on the fate of smaller DLC. It should however be clear that we’re not going to get 10+ hours of new gameplay for Oblivion on the Marketplace again after Shivering Isles hits the download area.
Good news is of course that Bethesda did show a year of good dedication to their product, gracefully forgetting the Horse Armor fiasco, and that they can now dedicate themselves fully to other upcoming projects such as Fallout 3 and the inevitable Elder Scrolls V.

My hat is off to Bethesda. This game has more depth to it than any other 360 release to date. Great game and one of those I will always remember to of keeping my attention for 100+ hours.
why i stopped playing this epic i do not know.
curry has gone and finished it since i put it out of sight in my drawer.
might dust the beauty off and batter out the 1000 points. this is by far the BEST single player game on the 360
I loved this game for ages, then just got bored shitless by the endless, repetative oblivion gates. I may go back to it and finally complete it though.
I completed it by doing a grand total of 2 Oblivion gates. The only mandatory ones are the Kvatch gate and the final one at Bruma.
What most people don’t notice is that the ‘Help for Bruma’ quest is a sidequest. It ‘forces’ you to close gates outside every city, which is a cumbersome process, but it only gathers you more help at the final battle… which was quite doable with only the Bruma guard to assist.
It’s more climactic with all those other soldiers, though.
I’m 45 hours in now and pretty addicted. Can’t wait for SI.
Not only is it such a great single player experience like everyone has mentioned,it’s such a beautiful game too. Sometimes I’ll just run around the world to see the beautiful landscapes and views from hills and mountains. Sunrises and sunsets are so beautiful in this game.
cant wait
Great game, I think shiv isles is supposed to be released in March? Can’t wait! I did find the oblivion gates to be very boring; it was a matter of climbing to the top and no real differences between each gate. They should have made each one have a dungeon or change how to solve each gate.
lol, just don’t bother with the baddies and run right through the world. Get an invisibility spell and like my character, you’ll get through each gate in under 20 mins.
130+ hours so far, with absolutely no intention of finishing this great game. I just want to keep playing and playing it until Elder Scrolls V.
I was a pretty powerful character by the time I started doing the oblivion gates. It took around 20 minutes running through each gate and killing enemies
I do the gates quick. Just stay invisible the whole time and run up to the top and grab the stone and open the pods for loot along the way.
All great things must come to an end
The game’s definately long enough on it’s own though
I clocked already 160 hours on this game…and still loving it…
Shivering Isles can’t come soon enough for me…:P
