Another Halo roundup [Update]
It seems that as soon as one piece of Halo news is submitted, another three follow suit almost instantly. So we bring you another Halo 3 roundup full of rumours, speculation and wishful thinking. Will we see the game in September? Is that really the Legendary box art? Take a peek after the jump for the latest news.
Update: The boxart is indeed real, high quality shots have been released by Microsoft. High res pictures after the jump.
Firstly, the packaging. Below you’ll see two images of what the packaging will look like come Fall, officially released by Microsoft.
Secondly, if you still haven’t got into the Beta via one of the many methods, head over to Germany where they are giving out access codes at Gamestop and EBGames. For €10, all you have to do is pre-order the game on their site. They take the €10 from your bank account and send you the Beta code, giving you the chance to play the Beta along with all the Crackdown owners. Google translation provides the usual Engrish response:
Book in each Gamestop EBGames net curtain within Germany halo in advance 3 and receive you an exclusive advance booking Package. With this you have to immerse the possibility first into the fascinating world from halo 3.
*The advance booking and associated handing of the advance booking Packages out take place only at persons by means of 18 years and against a pre-payment from 10 €uro.
Hopefully that makes sense (I’ve no idea what net curtains has to do with it), but they are basically saying that the game has to be pre-ordered at either of the two stores, you pay €10 and voila, you have the Beta code.
Thirdly and finally, a September release for the mega-hyped game is being whispered about. Shane Kim mentioned it in an interview with 1UP, whilst IGN have said that two separate, anonymous, sources have stated Bungie are pushing for a September release.
In the 1UP interview, Kim states:
“We don’t tell Bungie when they have to ship Halo 3. If they can get out before GTA4, they probably feel like that’s better, sort of like Xbox 360 coming out before PlayStation 3.”
[…]
“What happened in September of 2004? In September of 2004 we released Fable, Fable got big sales and then in November got big sales again. I just believe great titles can get the double bump and I think Halo 3 is going to be that.”
This is contrary to what people originally thought. Given that Halo and Halo 2 both shipped in November, the eleventh moth of the year made sense; just before Christmas, generate more sales of consoles. A September release could turn out to be more sneaky. It would get more consoles out in time for Christmas, meaning more people buy the games in the build-up months.
Jumping over to IGN with their two anonymous sources, A big-name publisher and well-established development house” [sic] revealed to them that since the game is such a big one, it is likely to sell more consoles in the build up to Christmas, and will beat the competition by doing this, since both Sony and Nintendo are likely to have a few big games coming out around Christmas time. Both sources were quick to point out that this is the plan, and although Bungie currently are on/ahead of schedule, anything could change.
That concludes this months roundup for all things Halo. The release date seems almost too good to be true, given that the Beta still isn’t available for mass testing yet. However the artwork is definitely real, since they were officially released by Microsoft today, so perhaps a September release isn’t as unrealistic as originally thought. Germans have struck it lucky and can obtain the Beta with relative ease, so lucky them!
Thanks to detroit adam, owee and nofear360 for submitting.

News items are coming thick and fast today, i can’t keep up.
The halo 3 logo, turn it through 180 degrees and paint it red. Sort of familiar with anyone?
Not fussed about this game tbh, Halo and Halo 2 were 2 of the most overhyped games in history, not forgetting that Halo 2 online was a hackers paradise and made most matches unbearable. I shall use my time with the Halo 3 Beta to make my mind up on this, but can’t see it being too far away from the debacles that were Halo & Halo2, I might be wrong, we’ll just have to wait and wait and wait and see…
that’s cool, i would rather wait until the game comes out in the fall.. i had alot of problems with all the cheating with Halo 2 and there are alot of really good games coming out, so i might wait until the 2nd wave of halo 3 shipments come in before i purchase mine… let them work out the beginning bugs.
Please, just but out the beta already! At least put out the final release date of the beta! The bugs and cheating of Halo 2 is rediculous, but I think Bungie has had plenty of time to work out all the bugs in Halo 3, and if there are any, they will be small. Small enough to download a patch for on Live. And the news is all of the sudden massive! Exciting!
I’m awaiting the day when i come to xboxic to find a news article about the latest crap that a Halo 3 developer has taken.
You’d be amazed with the stuff we get submitted concerning Bungie everyday. I wouldnt be surprised if we had a submit about Frankie taking a dump in the past.
Halo haters are a funny breed.
But of course, different strokes for different folks, right?
Personally, I can’t wait for Halo 3.
A buddy of mine works for EB Games here (Canada) and they’ve set the price for Legendary at $200 CDN. I love Halo as much as the next person, but that seems a bit much for a video game, no? Besides, where the shit am I expected to store that HUGE box?
Halo 3 is pletty low on my list of games but I’ll treat it like any other upcoming game, With hopes that it will be better than the ones that came before it. (in this case Halo 1 and 2)
Nice, still can’t decide which to get…
Don’t mind it coming out later than September so Bungie can give it a bit of extra polish
September would be awesome
b-day present for me!!!! yippie!
I second that! yippie!
It’s going to be $130 in the US for the Legendary Edition.
well, that makes the decision a little easier, no Legendary Edition for me
Linex.you’re right. $130.coooooool
“after the jump”
after what jump? There is no jump. Stop saying “after the jump” when there isn’t a ‘jump’ for fucks sake.
i swear, if microsoft rushes bungie on their release date once again (halo2 anyone?) and this game isnt as good as it should be, i will be extremely disappointed.
Just a word on pricing for Legendary in Canada…I saw that post claiming $200 at EB. About 2 months ago you could pre-order online from Future Shop for $145 and they tagged a Nov. 15 release at that time.
I know the release date’s meaningless but that’s a heck of a lot cheaper than the EB price you quoted. I picke done up (I’m a sucker for fancy shmancy helmets I can dispaly on my mantle)
