Halo 3 Editions: pricing revealed
As I’m sure many of you are now aware, the pricing has been announced for each of the three flavours Halo 3 will come in. Just missing the cut for the Halo roundup post, we bring news that may annoy or delight fans, depending on how much you want to spend on the game. Pricing is after the jump.
The Legendary Edition
Coming in at at Estimated Retail Price of $129.99, the edition will be released in limited quantities. Coming in a “collectible” Spartan helmet case will be two bonus discs full of supplemental content as well as some storyboard artwork.
One disc will show you exclusive behind the scenes footage and videos, with the highlight being a High Definition “Making of Halo 3″ documentary, that will show Halo fans the amount of effort the Bungie team put in to create “the most anticipated title in the industry’s history”. Things in the documentary will include:
- Several featurettes documenting the creative design processes involved in developing the game
- A look at some early game concepts and their evolution through the game’s development.
- The disc will also include an audio-visual calibration tool, never before seen on a video game and custom designed by the “Halo 3” graphics and audio team to make the most of fans’ high-definition home theaters, for the ultimate “Halo 3” and Xbox 360™ audio and video performance.
The second bonus disc that will be exclusive to the Legendary Edition, includes “completely remastered cinematic material from “Halo: Combat Evolved” and “Halo 2,” supplemented with developer commentaries, to provide a refresher course on the thrilling “Halo” story so far, and a featurette documenting a day in the life at Bungie. Exclusive content from the creative minds behind Machinima artists “Red vs. Blue” and “This Spartan Life” will also be included.”
Lastly, your money will also go towards an “illuminating collection of original “Halo 3” storyboard art from artist Lee Wilson“. The storyboard will apparently portray key moments and pivotal scenes from the epic cinematic production of Halo.

The Limited Edition
This edition will set you back an ERP of $69.99. Slightly more reasonable, but you do get slightly less in the box. Contained within a metal case, buyers of this will find the same disc as the Legendary Edition (the first disc), as well as a special “Halo” fiction and art book.
A must-have for “Halo” collectors and a source of invaluable and exclusive information, the piece is an elaborate and compelling guide to the species and factions that inhabit the worlds of the “Halo” universe, with never-before-seen art and story elements that expand and illustrate the depth and breadth of the “Halo” fiction.
This is the part that is also annoying: purchasers of the Legendary Edition will still need to buy the Limited Edition to makes sure they get everything, since the art book is exclusive to the LE version. Not kind.
Standard Edition
For the ERP of $59.99, the Standard Edition promises that the game disc will be included. Rumours are reporting a manual might be included, but that is so far not confirmed.

I feel bad for the younger guys who are strapped for cash. Especially when you consider what other games are going to be shipping around that time. For once, it’s good to be older.. I’m 67. Just kidding I’m thirty-one…..but now videogames are my “hobby”. And I love buying crap like this. (crap in a good way…. ex.-I ate so much fruit and soup, when I took a crap it just slid out, it was nice.) I say bring it on. We are Halo freaks and we have money, we want everything. But it stops there, I doubt we’ll get Halo Wars (I might).

I’ve already bought the Legendary edition outright at my local EB. I consider this receipt I’m holding as a contract. they said how much it would be, the store set a price and I paid it. That constituted a transaction and it’s done; I paid the price they set and now they must deliver. Now, if Microsoft wants to raise price of the item, then it’s a problem between EB and Microsoft. Seems to me that EB is going to lose $30+ dollars on my deal. I’m gonna do my damnedest to take home the game I bought at the price I bought it.

It should be noted the helmet isn’t big enough to wear by the way. In fact you’d have to have an abnormal shaped head to fit into it.

Totally agree, Halo 1 I thought was superb (yet still overrated) Halo 2 was utter shit. Online - even worse - full of screaming, howling, bigoted, misinformed, egotistical, pre teen americans…..Halo 3 online is going to be unplayable thanks to the wankers that ruined Halo 2 online except this time magnified x 100…for me Halo 3 aint even on my gaming radar.

I agree with the whole halo 2 pre-teen annoyances. Yet playing with a team of four friends, or playing customs is simply awesome. Also why all the bitching about the price, if you don’t want it don’t buy it. I for one only need the standard edition. On a side note how is $130 = 3 Games, looks like 2 games and a cheeseburger to me.

my friends getting the legendary, so ill look at his art and videos once, which is as much as anyone watches those things anyways. the artwork is cool once the game comes out, but a few months later you forget about it. ill prob get the reg just for size. the oblivion expansion should come in a daedric helmet. that would look cool siting next to a mjolnir helmet. i might get the legendary then. only if i get another job tho. otherwise, yeah right!
