Scheduled downtime next week on Live
Cancel any clan matches, or any plans to stay at home on Tuesday 27th March, because Xbox Live, along with the Xbox.com forums and Xbox.com itself will be down for fourteen hours. This isn’t in any way related to the Spring dashboard update, but something Microsoft had already planned.

Xbox Live, Xbox.com and the Xbox forums will be undergoing scheduled maintenance on Tuesday March 27th (next week) from 0000 to 1400 PT. As a result of this maintenance, Xbox Live, Xbox.com and the Xbox forums will be unavailable during this time. I thought I’d give you enough time to plan next weeks gaming schedule.

This is purely ‘back end’ work that we scheduled months ago. This is not a dashboard update…that will happen later this Spring.
Let speculation begin then! The most likely reason would be that it is some sort of stress test in preparation for Vista and the Live for Windows service that launches in May (the 8th, to be precise). They can find any problems in advance to avoid the launch slipping.
No doubt many of you have got other ideas, so let us know in the comments. Either way, it sure is annoying, especially here in Europe where Live will be down for the whole day (0800-2200 GMT). Not good, but they have to do what they have to do. Let’s just hope it doesn’t run on for longer than planned which has happened once before…

They won’t tell us anyway, they just play it off whenever they screw up.
I hope they allow us to remove credit cards from our accounts after this “maintenance”, but thats probably wishful thinking as well, I mean, they’ve had over a year to do it and still haven’t, even when people complained at launch.
The words “microsoft” and “security” dont really go hand in hand.

you can already remove credit cards from your account through xbox.com. I’ve already done this twice myself.

That’s a good thought! Perhaps Halo 3 Beta or something of the likes. Also security and some other things. There is also some unsubstantiated rumors that they will be hosting the GoW update that has been floating around for a few months now. News maps and new weapons, and I just heard something about “Deathmatch” a few matches ago which is supposedly a full 8v8. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!! Anyways, hopefully it will be a few cool things, if only some nice security and server boostage.
