360 Elite in the production line

While Microsoft still firmly state that they do not comment on rumour and speculation, more and more evidence suggests that actually, yes, the Elite is real. To clear things up further, new images of the Elite machine have been released, not supposed press shots, but of the console in the production line of a Chinese manufacturer, handily snapped on what is probably a camera phone. All six pictures after the jump.

Note the date when the pictures were taken. Either the guy that snapped the shots had a new camera and it took him a month to figure out how to upload them, or the Elite has been in production for a while. I’m amazed the shots have come out now, since these days it is the kind of thing that gets put on the net instantly. The shots were originally posted here, and a Google translation provides this amazing insight into the excitement:

As mobile phones, cameras can not be brought into plants. The key to reaching the buttocks no plans, joy!

Roughly translated into a comprehensible sentence: “Cameras are not allowed to be taken into plants, and as such mobile phones have also been banned. Oh sweet joy, the arse is still reachable some way or another, you just need the right key”. I said roughly.

In related news, advertising has been spotted for the Elite version in a Gamestop store as a promotional message to potential customers. Posted below, note the spelling of Hard Drive; would promotional material really spell it “Hardrive”, something pretty careless when stuff like that should be word and grammar perfect.

Picture sent from a Blackberry, hence the size

Lots more news all pointing in the same direction then. There are other rumours floating around suggesting that an announcement will be made on Wednesday, but there is no evidence to suggest how credible that is. Either way, you know where to come for the news.

Thanks to Roy Johnson a.k.a Thugboy4, nofear360 and o SneakySnake o for submitting.

If u look at the 120GB HDD pic inverted. See how the DD text at the end is not on the same ‘path’ as the 120GB. The HDD text is laying further flat

Lets face it now….the Elite is coming. They’ll probably have a pack ready to go with Halo 3 later this year too. Get ya money out I say!!!

I’ll be waiting until after I’ve bought my 71″ LCD first!!! lol

My 360 is still alive and kicking. I can still play my games with no problem so…no real need for spending an extra $400 for the elite. If my current 360 gives out when the elite is already out (which it will in due time) THEN, and only THEN will I go out and get an elite. As far as the whole “Black Case” … Doesnt really matter as long as I can play the same games at the same quality lol.

boy the people at the top are so stupid its only one silver in that pic and the rest are black cant wait to get my DOUBLE THE SIZE HDD than ps3.

with ps3 you can swap out the hard drive though, i’m not sure what the max size is.

If they was black - they’d be darker than the HDD. The xbox’s in the third picture down, clearly isn’t black…

I really hope we can get at least a few retailers to offer some kind of trade in program where you can trade in your old 360 for an Elite for 100-150$. A easy way to transfer large amounts of data between hard drives would be appreciated as well.

Comment by Arian on 2007-03-27 04:27:45 | Reply

Yes, that would be greatly appreciated as well. Not to mention you can trade in all the accessories as well and get the limited black version to match the 3lit3.

Agreed, but then MS would have to do something about locking the downloads and XBLA titles to your original Xbox, as anone who trades them in and tranfers data won’t be able to play xbla title offline

Comment by The_Glovner on 2007-03-27 13:26:22 | Reply

Surely you could if your gamertag (and so live account) is transferred across with all other data.

Comment by Pinkeye69 on 2007-03-27 14:02:04 | Reply

No, unfortunatly it isn’t. When you buy XBLA titles thei lock themselves to the unique id of the 360. if you replace the 360 then offline you only get the trial version, you have to sign in to get the paid release. This was found when MS started replacing faulty unrepairable 360s and to date they are showing now signs of “fixing it”

Yeah but you just redownload them (it doesn’t cost anything).
This is what I did when I got my other 360.
They work hust as they used to.
It ain’t like they are big downloads.

Comment by J1980 on 2007-03-27 18:59:14 | Reply

exactly - its not even a big deal

Comment by Koifim on 2007-03-27 07:43:56 | Reply

Check the spelling on the add. It says ‘Hardrive’?
So this is a bad photoshop, or the guy who made this add needs some more spelling lessons.

Comment by Pinkeye69 on 2007-03-27 09:25:03 | Reply

Yeah that pic was debunked as fake on another site. Apprently the guy received it via his blackberry from some internet shop… hmmm…

An announcement wil be made on sunday morning to say this is an april fools. Sorry to spoil the suprise.

Comment by The_Glovner on 2007-03-27 13:27:56 | Reply

Well thats a bit of advance preparation for an April fools which I would imagine could piss a few people off.

Can’t see it being a joke myself, just seems to be too much going around about this one now.

Comment by SNIPERWOLF 79 on 2007-03-27 13:40:45 | Reply

If the Elite x360 with a 120gb hard drive and hdmi is indeed true which I doubt after looking at the date on photos ie. valentines day, and its now almost april fools day. I take it microsoft WON’T have a compensation package ready for the diehard fans like myself who bought a 360 on release therefore helping to ensure it success?

Comment by EUP]-[ORIC on 2007-03-27 13:44:02 | Reply

I don’t get what the big deal is with having a 120 gig hard drive. You can already save whatever you need to save on a PC external drive that is twice the size at half the price. What is the big deal anyway?

Comment by kevgallacher on 2007-03-27 15:24:31 | Reply

Yeah but you can’t download demos to external HDD’s. Only music, ppics and vids (but not downlaoded off of Live) can be stored on external HDD.

I have had 360 since launch and have filled the HDD on several occasions. It annoys me having to delete stuff.

With HD vids there isn’t really enough room, what happens when they start 1080p downloads.
A 720p film on american marketplace takes about 5GB. That is over a third of the space on the drive.
There is then the IPTV service which will alow you to record, 20GB wont hold much.

Also is there not plans to start downloadable games at some point.

Comment by kevgallacher on 2007-03-27 15:26:24 | Reply

To be honest 120GB might not even be enough.

Comment by SNIPERWOLF 79 on 2007-03-27 13:54:17 | Reply

The thing that concerns me about the hard drive size is that it seems that every game you buy these days needs an update stored on the hard drive and then theirs the extra downloadable content eating upto 500meg a time. Wont be long till my hardrives not big enough to store any demos. If a 120gb ‘as standard’ is released, then I’ll be writing a letter to microsoft complaing about getting short changed for supporting their machine. I’m not one for moaning but I can’t see how this would be fair when we’ve all paid the same ‘price’ (or more) than what the new 120gb version will cost.

WTF is a

HARDRIVE?

I am aware there are Hard Drives

But a Har Drive or a Hard rive I’ve never heard of

That strange error almost makes me think it’s still fake haha

Comment by CleanSweep31 on 2007-03-27 15:50:26 | Reply

Seems like a well played april fools joke or Microsoft would say something by now… Game Informer has a massive article on it, but it is in the April issue 168 and they can’t be trusted to get it right all the time either.

Comment by Arian on 2007-03-27 16:29:58 | Reply

Methinks it too elaborate, too promising to be a hoax.

Plus I have insiders info so there is, without a doubt, no scam, april fool’s day prank, hoax, etc.

Comment by mass9 on 2007-03-27 17:40:31 | Reply

Why so much concern about this?
Every piece of technology gets upgraded over time. 1 1/2 years after the initial release a company is including features that everyone wants, but then all people do is bitch about how they bought the ‘old’ one and want a trade in package to save a few hundred bucks.

Bottom line is, you don’t bithc when a new graphics card is released for your PC, you don’t bitch when you buy a car and they change the body style 2 years later, you don’t bitch when get a new amp for your guitar that is outdated within a year, but people do bitch when they buy a console and it gets an upgrade. I’m too tired to make this comment a little more forceful and to the point. I need a snack….mmmmm….chocolate pudding. yum!

Comment by kevgallacher on 2007-03-27 19:43:54 | Reply

It’s not like there hasn’t been multiple versions of consoles before.
Look at the GB, they had game boy lite, then GBC now they have GB micro.
There was a newer version of GBA called GBA SP.
With the DS there is the DS lite.
The Playstation had PSone.
PS2 had the slimline version.
There are newer better ipods almost every year.

Comment by J1980 on 2007-03-27 19:03:59 | Reply

I personally think if the elite xbox360 came with a 120GB harddrive - it would be seperately packaged, seeing as the HDD would be released in the stores also seperately, they’d just bundle it in - why has all those silver xbox 360’s above got Harddrives attached to them out of the box?

Comment by kevgallacher on 2007-03-27 19:39:41 | Reply

Why do people seem to think they are silver?
They are clearly black.
The third pic looks like it has a relection on it perhaps from a flash from the camera.
I have plenty of euiptment in my house that is black but when viewed from cetain angles and in the right lighting condition can give the effect of it looking silvery.

Comment by EUP]-[ORIC on 2007-03-28 03:35:52 | Reply

120 gigs is not that big when you are talking about downloading and storing HD content. My home DVR is about 170 gigs and I am always dumping content off of it to make room for more.

Is there any way current xbox 360 owners can use HDMI? Seems a bit harsh if we have to spend another £300 just for that feature, surely an adapter could be released?
