Jetpac: Refuelled now available

As promised last week, Jetpac: Refuelled is now available on the Marketplace this morning. With the explosion of huge news already, you would be forgiven for forgetting that it is Wednesday, and an Arcade game was coming. But alas, it is here, and details appear after the jump.

Courtesy of Major Nelson:

  • Name: Jetpac Refuelled
  • Price: 400 Points
  • Availability: All Xbox Live regions
  • Dash Details: Purchase the full version of Rare’s Jetpac Refuelled to access a wide spectrum of game features. Open up a vast array of levels, engage in battle over Xbox Live, post to the Leaderboards and play for new Achievements. Runs at 60hz in full-screen high definition. The original 1983 classic is also included. Provides at least 500% of your recommended daily intake of laser-based alien extinction.
  • Size: 21.14 MB

400 Points for a bit of a retro game, and a bit of a modern game, since there are two different modes available. The original, and a newer, and most probably better, version. Post away in the comments about the game, and let us know if you wasted your Points or not. It’s also nice to see that no region misses out on the game, something almost unusual after the last few weeks.

You probably have to be well into your 30’s to fully appreciate this game and what it did to raise the bar back in ‘83 when games were generally just rehashes of “Space Invaders” and “Pacman” - or crappy “go north” / “go east” text adventures.

This was not just a shooter - it was a shooter that games you freedom to roam the whole screen - with sub-games and objectives other than just shooting enemies. And each enemy had a unique look and a personality.

I liked the original - respect what it did for the games industry and think that the remake is actually very good.

Simple to get to grips with, but not easy to master. See you on level 128!

Yeah, I fall into that over 30’s bracket, but it does make me appreciate games a whole lot more. Considering what I had when I was kid and comparing that to what my kids play now, but I have got them to like some of the games that I used to play via MAME and various other emu’s. I will sit them down infront of this game and see what they think when they get in from school later on this afternoon.

Hopefully they will release the follow up to this game next, Lunar Jetman…

Lunar JetMan was a great game - just incredibly difficult on the speccy’s rubbery keys. Finding that missile base and staying alive was frustrating - but should be a lot easier with the 360’s new-fangled controller!

But both of the JetPac games showed the home computing world that there’s more to a shooter than left-right-fire!

KultiVator!

Lunar Jetman ftw.
And if they do it, maybe Rare will stick that fake trailer in for real this time! lol

Jetpac Refuelled is brilliant btw. 400pts - a bargain.

400 point bargain!

This will keep me going nicely until PomPom’s next shooter and the upcoming games from Jeff Minter!

Look past the simplicity - this game is still worthy!

damn it’s a really small file size, expected it to be a lot bigger really with all those level.s Guess a lot look similar then but 128 levels is nice.

Should be the best 400 MSP game

Yep - it’s that all right !

Amazing though - the original game was written by 2 brothers in their spare time. The remake was developed by a legion of people (try watching the credits!)
