EA renews LotR license, more games planned

After the highly successful movies and a bunch of games based on the stories, JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings franchise hit a sudden stop on its march to victory recently as LotR: The White Council first was rumored to be canceled and then put on hold indefinitely. Luckily, Electronic Arts now announces they renewed their license on the franchise and will be releasing more games.

There was no mention whatsoever of the White Council, but EA did state they are working to release their next project with New Line Cinema and Tolkien Enterprises in 2008. Since White Council was supposedly canned because of quality problems, this mysterious ‘next project’ could just as well be a rebuild from scratch, or even an entirely new game.

Considering it’s EA, a third Battle for Middle Earth game is also a near certainty

Xboxic will be keeping you posted as more info emerges on the “new, in-depth and compelling interactive adventures inspired by the books and movies of The Lord of the Rings.”

really? wow! and Lord of the Rings always seemed so manly and stuff. Swords, demons, blood and dragons led me to think it was straight. I guess you can never really tell just by looking.
Oh well, the sexual orientation of the Lord of the Rings isn’t a big deal to me. I just hope the Lord of the Rings can find happiness. If it happens to be with someone of the same sex then who are we to judge?

Yeah but Legolas looks like a woman. It’s gay.

That’s just Orlando Bloom’s natural disposition.

Dude Legolas may look like a girl but behind the scenes he got more chicks than anyone else in Middle Earth combined. They just could’nt show that in the films cuz it had a PG-13 rating. The only gay ones in they’re were those hobbits.

Great… now watch EA turn a much loved series of books and films into yet another cash cow franchise, and then milk it to death :-(

They’ve already owned the LotR license for a while, hence the word ‘renew’.

shame EA is gthe one to do it…they usually make at best mediocre/decent games or a potentially good game with stuff left out because it’d cost them money

Whatever it is, I agree with it.

BFME 2 for 360 could have been a lot better if it had the War of the Ring mode and create-a-hero. And what about the expansion?
