Spring Dashboard Update features leaked
Ah the power of Internet! The video was only online for a short while before being pulled, but it got youtubed right away, so here it is for the world to see. The Spring update is scheduled for release May 7th, and most notable improvements are MSN integration, low power download mode, and auto-off settings for after downloading.
We recommend just watching the video yourself, since it’s a quick roller-coaster ride through many small modifications that you can better see yourself than having us write vague explanations.

I know…thats what I like about the PS3…I can check my emails…comment on here, play a game, watch a HD Movie, check some more emails…make some more comments….but yeah I really want a good browser on the 360. The Wii’s browser is absolute shit! The PS3 browser is excellent, clear, crisp and easy to control…we need xbox360 Explorer Now!!!
when you get a virus on you PS3 I will be laughing my ass off, I have a computer to look up stuff on the net and I really don’t want to use a controller to surf the web.
yeah why would you even wanna surf the internet with your console…especially when no websites are optimised for TV’s and unless you’ve got a 720p or 1080i/p HDTV it’s absolutely pointless
You wont get viruses for the PS3.
You can use a mosue and keyboard to browse the web on PS3.
Quote “watch a HD movie” does that give you any clues El Scorpio…lol The PS3 is obviously not a PC Internet replacement…nobody is that thick! But my pint is, that whilst im sat with the PS3 on and I want to check emails or just view something. I can and its quite quick & simplified.
I feel safe in the knowledge that there wont be a PS3 virus. if there ever was - im sure sony would release some fix…

what’s this big deal about divx? how in the hell do you even get divx video?
I download about 40/50 gigs worth of AVI (divx/xvid) files a month.
I use Xbox Media Centre on an old (Chipped) Xbox at the moment but would love to start watching the files on my 360 if they allowed Divx/Xvid in an update.
I think the question was more: how do you get LEGAL divx files that would give Microsoft a proper reason to support it
I wouldn’t say downloading a DivX file of a recent TV show or Movie was anymore illegal than using a VCR to tape it off the TV.
Millions of people use VCR’s to record of the TV every day… its classes as illegal to do so… but you never see people getting taken to court as they have a huge collection of stuff taped off the TV onto VHS.
TV shows I download every week (Heroes, Lost etc.) and movies I get from friends are all divx videos :(.
When the update comes. You know we’ll be like - god there could have been more. This is good but nothing fantastic. They need to make ‘Live’ 100% free
I totally disagree with that comment, now that the PS3 is widely available, and their service is free, you will see a whole lot of idiots grace the Sony service, and you’re welcome to them. Fact is, the Sony service is wank compared to Xbox Live. I am glad to pay my £40 a year, usually less as I tend to buy up cheap registration cards.

There seems to be a bit of confusion… auto off was always there, as was the ability to begin playing videos before they were finished downloading…
The msn stuff is nice, but it’s about a year later than they promised.

Agreed, I knew that, I just wasnt clear… on engadget it read as if there was no auto shutdown before, which there was, just not pertaining to downloads…
Also, the preview things been there since last years dash update.

Can we have the ability to erase games off our gamercards??? So many rented games where I only have like 15 gamer points. Plus no reason that xbl arcade games should be tied to your gamercard they’re just trials!!!
Oh there’s a reason… same reason that they have that lame “tell a friend” thing in the arcade… ms wants to use any means necessary (including gamercards plastered all over the web) to promote the arcade, so they have zero plans to remove the trials from gamercards.
Actually I heard from several (unofficial yet kinda reliable) sources that the XBLA trial thing should be fixed next update.
That’d be awesome. In fact if anything, that would probably make me use the arcade MORE - there’s a few recent games (like Luxor) which I might be tempted to try, if it didn’t mean clogging up my game history with naff trials.

There certainly is more to come. There are features pertaining to VGA (resolutions and more importantly for me, timings so I can go back to the fall update where my monitor worked). This was just a broad overview of more noticeable options.
When I had my ps3 before I returned it. I hated the browser it was way too slow. It was not as good as using a comp.

That messenger thing would be amazing… but only if it was with AIM. All of my friends use AIM and there is no way I can make them convert.
well its about time Europeans got something they wanted rather than Americans, you get the Video Marketplace the least we can have is MSN.
looks great but I dunno about having it integrated with live messenger ‘cos I’ve got sometihng like 100 contacts on there and it’s too much without groups!

I just wanted to mention to those who keep complaining about divx support that it probably won’t happen. However, I use TVersity for all my media streaming and it has worked perfectly with divx as well as nearly every other format that I use. HD streaming works great as well as standard def streaming.
wow, this is a pretty sweet update. Still, I pray for the day they add 1440/900 VGA support for my PC monitor….
