Quake 3 Arena to hit Live Arcade?
After Doom hit Xbox Live Arcade during last year’s X06 event, we already knew id Software and Microsoft were good friends where id’s back catalogue was concerned. One of the most classic online multiplayer games of all time seems set now to hit the Arcade as well though: Quake 3 Team Arena.

The ESRB has become a highly reliable source for new XBLA releases, predicting several games correctly way before there was official news. Curiously, in this case, the entry shown above thanks to Xbox 360 Fanboy for Quake III: Team Arena on Xbox 360 has already been removed now. Incorrect entry? More than likely the info wasn’t yet meant to be up there, since an editing error in a game this old isn’t quite probable.
Listed publisher Pi Studios has worked on ports of Call of Duty 2 and Mercenaries 2 before, linking them to id Software publishing partner Activision sufficiently. Our opinion? Given the previous release of Doom, we’ll gladly welcome Team Arena into the Arcade lineup, and polish up our railguns for some Q3DM17 loving.
Thanks Colby, Taben and nofear360 for the pointers!

this was about the time I quit PC gaming. My comp at the time was a nice, big, grey/off white piece of shite and couldn’t handle this game. I would grab it in a heart beat.
I had a fresh P3-500 at work, with Matrox VGA card. Game ran fine, and we had the demo on all work machines. Played it every frigging lunch break for months
No Freaking way !!! I love Q3 arena w00t! *Dances Q3A Dance*
I hate to be critical, but Team Arena != Arena.
It is however an expansion pack, hence it contains the original (and better) game
This for me is the greatest game ever made, i have clocked up a scary amount of hours on it. Would i play it on the 360, yes but only if it had mouse/keyboard support, without it this game loses SO SO much, like instant twitch railgun shots but most importantly it would lose Strafe run and that people would be the biggest mistake ever in the history of games. To the point that, and this is going back a bit, when this game came out the Strafe jump was left in by accident and so when patch 1.25 came out for the PC for this game they removed the strafe jump within days a new patch was released as ID realised there mistake,as the back lash on the internet was MASSIVE, that is how important it is to this game.
Here end’ef the Quake 3 history lesson.
Besides i now play Quake 4(on the PC)just about everyday, if anyone fancy’s a game against me come to the JOLT DM servers i play as ‘Skunkworx’ and i am there often.
Same here, I loved Q3A but it was a mouse shooter with its heavy focus on railguns. A console can handle a shooter just as well as a PC, but railguns make it damn hard with a controller.
Dm17 the greatest multiplayer map EVER designed, pure genius.
PS. When this game had World Stat Tracking i got to 9th in the world on 1v1. I was well proud, sad i know but hell i enjoyed it.
It could be that it might be included along with Quake Wars.
I would love it. I have a lot of fond memories of playing Quake 3 Arena on my PC.
Where is the Quake 1 port?
Lol I literally play this game every single day. Only good game my Schools computers will run =p.
Quakeworld to be exact.
Pi Studious worked on ports of Mercenaries 2? I wasn’t aware that game had come out yet. =P
this would be nice, quake’s pretty cool
Haha :3
Isn’t this one too big for XBLA? I thoght the new limit was 512 MB and IIRC Q3A was a full 600+MB, let alone Team Arena.
