More GTA IV shots from Game Informer

We broke the news to you that the May edition of Game Informer would feature some ten pages of exclusive Grand Theft Auto IV shots and information, and Xboxic now has a lot more shots of the magazine. After the jump you can check out the shots of the magazine.

Well there we have it. The version shown is indeed the 360 version as we already mentioned. One thing that sticks out is that geographically, the city is smaller than San Andreas. Make what you will of that. The shots speak for themselves, so post what you think in the comments below.

I think you are right, the fictious manhattan (liberty city) is much smaller than san andreas and the many ‘islands’ you could visit. So now we have no planes and a smaller map. But we do know that gameplay will be good (or hope).

But remember San Andreas had miles and miles of ‘nothing’ in there, too. At least if Liberty City is, basically, Manhatten, it should be CRAMMED with interesting stuff.

I am glad if they have shrunk the play area, as GTA III and Vice City were better for me as i could remember every part of the citys and was able to quickly get from A-B using the best possible route, were as with San Andreas the play area was so big i found it impossible to remember every little detail and so i didn’t get the same connection with the play area that i did with the first 2.

Just Cause was a perfect example of this the whole play area was way way to big and just become totally forgettable and could of been 1/10th the size and with more detail/distinguishing features it would of been such a better game for it.

So far this is sounding like a return to form for the GTA series.

I felt exactly the same thing. SA was so big it became unenjoyable because I was having to constantly check the map to make sure I was going the right way, whereas in Vice City I knew the place as if I lived there.

Agree with this statment, 100%…that’s the reason I played Just Cause for such a short time….it was just TOO big…getting from A to B was a chore and became no fun really quickly…especially if you got stuck out in the middle of the ocean for some reason.

GTA 3 is still my favorite game in the series for this reason alone.

The way I see it there is bound to be ALOT of stuff that R* are keeping under wraps to keep from other developers from copying and to keep us guessing. Each release of GTA has been innovative and has set benchmarks for many to aspire to.

Planes or no planes this is going to be one of the best games of 2007, 2nd only to Halo 3. If its not then i’ll eat my xbox. :-)

I liked the large map in SA, just not the story line.

This looks like a much better story with hopefully some cool new stuff. I can understand why planes may not be included if the city is based on New York (Jack Thompson would wet himself) but they could at least have Helicopters.

funny to see a Heavy Weapon add on that billboard in the game. Awesome

Comment by Veritas on 2007-04-11 19:11:00 | Reply

Actually, I think it’s an ad for an in-game movie called “Heavy Weapons (X?)”… notice the guy in black and white and the subtitles.

I support this game as long as u get to kill russian communist twats

I wonder if we will see cameos from previous GTA characters. SA for example had that gimp from GTAIII.

everyone start making noise now… ROCKSTAR, please do NOT cheap out on the SOUNDTRACK. NOthing less than VICE CITY QUALITY will do. Its the main reason that game is the best GTA by far.

I’m sure the fifth borough will be in the add ons, they gotta have some new places for continuations you know? And Im hopin to see a mmorpg, that would be great but im still tryin to figure how that would do that unless they put the cop force up to realistic like in the scarface game (don’t mess with the 50). I hope they rengineered the shooting aspect of the game as well, made it more like a halo/rainbow six like deal that would be alot better than the just cause, saints row and previous gta game shooting techniques. Does anyone have an idea of how much inner rooms and things there are in this game? Like how many buildings you can go in and stuff b/c if they had at least 50% inside accessable facilities it would be 3 times larger than san adreas but still smaller map

Im so excited about this game, and its definitely a MUCH HAVE ON RELEASE game.

A Gears of War shooting aspect would be so nice for GTA IV.

Graphic looks awesome, and just the thing that you are going around in a almost 100% copy op New York is cool.

Dont think that this is gonna beat Halo 3, but i think that this looks better then Halo 3 (i got Halo 1 & 2).

I also love the thing that you create your own storyline, by doing different things.

So even though i havent tried it, i will give it 10 out of 10.
