If you still “fail to see the point of playing a fake plastic guitar while I’ve got a real Fender in your house” then you might want to read our review. But be warned, it’ll suck up more of your free time than is good for you, your wife and dog will start to feel neglected and your boss is probably going to wonder why you’ve called in sick ever since you went off to the store to buy that plastic toy guitar. It’s all worth it though.

Thanks for submitting Lusse!

While I would have rather seen maybe 4 songs for that price instead of 3, it’s still really cool that they are releasing music already for one of the most addictive games ever.

I would rather see 50 songs for free but that’s not gonna happen either ;)

Definitely a rip…why can’t they just be reasonable with the song packs? Do they really need the money that badly?

My guess is things are overpriced on the “marketplace” because people aren’t buying in the numbers they’d like, and they have to hit those “high numbers” somehow.

I haven’t even bought GH2 yet. The original Guitar Hero had a better tracklisting, so I was waiting to see how cheap the DLC would be. This is definitely NOT value for money.

these are songs from the originals tracklisting

I have no idea WTF they do over on his blog, but my comment was number 19, and now its like number 120… I guess they want to push away the bad but true comments?

It seems that way huh? TWO of my postings have not made it at all, and I LIKE the community there.

No, while Major is frolicking around with Greed Simmons and his “a$$vertising” concepts in NYC, the filters at MS are working overtime.

And “a$$vertising” is real BTW.

THIS is what we get for being early adopters of “Next-Gen”. Thanks MS!

Oh and 1UP Yours is “the most important gaming podcast? Evidence is mounting.”?

Welcome to six months ago. Glad you could finally figure it out. Dennis applauds your discovery.

XBox 360 - Because Major Nelson does not work for YOU.

Lovely jab at Currah, Nino. Unfortunately Take Me Out and Godzilla are still not present :(

Bicycle?

More like Bohemian Rhapsody.

doh… $20 for 9 songs?! if they release all of the first guitar hero songs at this price… you’re paying… $98. why god why? why must digital download transactions be more expensive than buying a disc? argh!

Why dont they include this song in the game ?
Next Generation = Overcharging Gamers

NAIL ON THE HEAD MAN…

embedded in like every interview that is had with someone in the xbox team, is this bit of snobby condescending attitude where they think 360 gamers are stupid idiots that will slather up and pay for anything they put out there.

Comment by mass9 on 2007-04-11 17:33:36 | Reply

I’ll “slather up” (never heard that before…) for anything that comes in a cool MC helmet. GH2, not so much.

Comment by Damien on 2007-04-11 15:58:40 | Reply

Yaargh, I never bought GH2 for the ps2 when i heard about it coming to the 360, and with dlc to follow, but 500 points for 3 songs I already played to death is just…yaaargh. Even for the newcomers who never played GH1 this is pricey.

Comment by chuck on 2007-04-11 16:13:12 | Reply

wheres the updates for marvel ultimate alliance

I’ve heard delayed because of the recent patch glitching the game. That’s fine, I spent enough money on MS Points today.

Comment by AugustusBot on 2007-04-11 16:16:21 | Reply

Overpriced.
Thankfully, I’m overpayed.

That’s the spirit. :D

Comment by mass9 on 2007-04-11 17:34:12 | Reply

lol, yeah, its nice, isn’t it?

what a joke, 3 songs that they already made and were paid for cost 500 points? They should give you all the GH1 songs for that

File Sizes?

As in, are these files 108kb?

Usually you guys are really good at noting this. But this time the sizes are not listed. I am not at home to look myself, so does anyone know the file sizes of this DLC?

XBox 360 - Fix your own guitars, AND we have to pay more than iTunes? Wow.

“we have to pay more than iTunes? Wow”

Come on, are you serious? There’s a lot more work involved in getting a song in Guitar Hero than on iTunes. Granted, all the work’s probably already done when they made the songs for GH1 on the PS2 but still, comparing it to iTunes to make it look expensive isn’t the best of comparisons.

Comment by quickfire on 2007-04-11 16:42:49 | Reply

Yeah, definitely not the same as iTunes… I mean, there at least we can pick through the fluff and only download tracks that we want. :)

Comment by SidearmS on 2007-04-11 16:43:24 | Reply

“Come on, are you serious?”

Yes, I am. Very.

As for the “work”, head over to Scorehero and check out their conversion guides. Not that much work.

Heck, go dig up the “hacker edition” of GH2 for the PS2. That was one guy doing the entire game over. Now granted, it was not on all difficulties, but it can be done.

And iTunes pricing IS a valid comparison. You get the song itself for NINETY NINE CENTS. And it is not a cover tune.

Right now on Major Nelson’s website, people are saying the same thing. And Major’s excuse is “licensing” which is utter BS…

They really, really, screwed up this version of the game. Just like Konami did with DDR Universe.

And then go hit up the 1UP Yours show for 04-09-07, and listen to Epic’s higherups squirm when they talk about DLC and pricing. MS is being greedy.

That’s ok, because I just will vote with my wallet on this one.

XBox 360 - Yes, I am serious.

All valid points but there’s still a whole lot less work involved with putting an MP3 on iTunes than with making a Guitar Hero track. They’re all covers, only usable with Guitar Hero so they have to pay the bands with that money, then there are the artists that make the tracks and the animations and such, on different difficulty levels etc. I’m not saying they’re not expensive but they’re definitely npt the most overpriced pieces of DLC out there either.

While I’ll agree that there’s more work involved than putting up a song on iTunes, you’re also not getting the song itself. You’re getting a cover of the song that can only be used in one medium where as with Itunes its a dollar a song and you can use it on your computer or a portable player.

I’ll probably pay for pack #2 for Queen and Frankenstein. Not the other two though. $6.25 or so for 3 songs is too high. I’ll buy the pack with Godzilla in it to when it comes out.

Comment by vandenbond on 2007-04-11 17:37:18 | Reply

Augustana, that’s the attitude, be thankful for being overpaid–same sentiments. Purchasing now…. :)

Comment by Thryon on 2007-04-11 19:04:44 | Reply

If you consider that I paid $90 for the game, and that the guitar itself sells for $60 (I know I purchased an extra one), then the actual cost of the game would be $30. To be generous, I will say that the game is $40 of the total price. The game ships with 74 songs, so simple math tells us that each song cost about 55 pennies. This converts to about 38MS points per song. So why are would I pay 167 MS Points per song?

Complaining on a website will do nothing. I will use my power as a consumer to not purchase any overpriced song packs. I refuse to pay over 200MS points per song pack.

a$$holes!!

it is a complete rip off at this price

Hey RedOctane, how about offering free packs for registered owners of your broken x-plorer guitar???

I wouldn’t buy 3 worthless songs for 500 points if it came w/ a penis attachment w/rumble feedback, shit

what a joke

I need to get me one (or two) of these!

Does anyone one know yet if you can get any more achievements from these song packs? If not there is NO reason to pay for a new game, get 1/2 a new game, and not even get meaningless numbers in return. They best give me my meaningless numbers!!!!

Comment by Buuuudddy on 2007-04-11 21:15:48 | Reply

I don’t think it’s Red Octane that decides how much MS Points it costs, I think it’s Microsoft.

Comment by Darkhosis on 2007-04-11 22:37:57 | Reply

are these songs required to get achievements?
what reason is there for playing games other than achievements.
no need to buy them just to get frustrated about something that has no reward. but thats just my opinion.
MS can overprice dlc all they want. if it isn’t about achievements then who cares?

Comment by Worms on 2007-04-11 23:46:41 | Reply

What if you want to rock out to one of the songs on there? I play games for fun not some stupid point tracking system.

Comment by Darkhosis on 2007-04-11 22:38:52 | Reply

lol sorry I didn’t read darkrom’s post. im too lazy to read all the comments as there are no achievement points for it.

What’s Nino doing with his real Fender in my house? :P

I like the comment about paying $98 for all of GH1’s songs. I’ll be more selective from here on out. I bought all of this morning’s packs thinking there were more than three in them, but I’ll probably only buy Take Me Out, Godzilla, and I Love Rock And Roll’s packs.

(ILRAR for the benefit of my little sister, of course. Personally I detest the song.)

I apologize for this ranting in advance. >: |

The Next Generation is Emptying Your Wallets. This is ridiculous. I’m on the fence about buying this game, but I’m gonna convince my buddy not to buy these packs! No reason why MS should be so greedy with its fan base. At the very least have “special pricing” a la Lumines Live.

I’ve made many mistakes in the marketplace:
GRAW1 chapter 2 pack (1200 pts)
Lumines (1200 pts)
Lumines add-on (300 pts??)
Alien Hominind (800 pts)
Street Fighter (800 pts)
Test Drive Packs (….???)
PGR3 Packs (….???)

Well like 5500 i.e. $68.72 (thanks mspconverter.com) for a bunch of useless add-ons that I only used a couple of times. They should otherwise be free. When you pay for a $60.00 DVD disc that’s price of admission but I know it’s optional but why fragment your customers by making it optional? Or at the very least include a dashboard theme pack and gamer pics like Amped 3 and some XBLA games already do.

Comment by JGON on 2007-04-12 03:18:43 | Reply

Sorry last post made no grammatical sense.

What I meant at the bottom was that if everybody paid $60.00 for a game then minor add-ons like songs, cars and maps should be free or at the very least affordable. True there are budgets involved for DLC but if Bungie could put out about 7 maps worth of content for free then why not everybody else? The only exception is Shivering Isle expansion pack.
