Bug hits the Isles; PC Shivering, 360 could be too
Played Shivering Isles on your PC yet but haven’t heard anything about a patch being required? I suggest you head here immediately and then come back once you’ve sorted your game out. Still here? Good, then you will be interested to know that a very serious bug has been found in Oblivion’s latest content, which could render your game useless. The PC version has already been fixed, but reports are suggesting that the 360 version may suffer the same problem.
The original problem lies with identification numbers. The game generates a huge number of these, for objects, NPCs and so on, and once the allocated space for the numbers is exhausted, new objects simply disappear from the world of Oblivion forcing the game into a crash. This problem can happen anywhere from 50 hours to over 110 hours of play, depending on the number of frames per second your PC operates at. The more frames per second, the faster your game is likely to crash.
That problem has now been fixed for PC users, but does the problem remain? Bethesda have said that they have not managed to so far generate the extreme circumstance on the 360.
“We have verified this problem can happen on the PC and are still looking into whether it is possible on 360, since we don’t have any reported cases of it happening on that platform, nor have we been able to recreate it on 360 ourselves [Bethesda]”
Despite this, there are rumblings in the forum underworld that the problem does exist with the 360 version too, but considerably more play time is required to achieve the same crashing state as the PC. But as mentioned, there is no proof of this yet. We will keep you updated should anything develop on this situation.
Let us know below if you have had any problems with the 360 version. More information is available at the dedicated Wiki.

First post!
i wonder why. haha game BLOWS
Yeah,
Games that “Blow” always sell record numbers and win ‘Game of the Year’ Awards. (Twit)
Anyway,
I’ve played thru the S.I. expansion and had zero issues. Unless of course you consider the fact that it was the most amazing expansion/add on to any game I’ve ever come across, An issue. I have 7 or 8 people on my FL that have played thru it as well and no issues for them either.
That would truly suck if your game got dumped after a couple hundred hours of play. I’m curious to see if this bug shows up on the 360 version.
I’ve almost finished the Shivering Isles campaign, myself…just aquired the “Staff” today (I’ll say no more), and am glad to report that my Xbox 360 version hasn’t glitched in this sense either.
And I’ve been jumping between characters and realms contantly, so if it’s a matter of material (item) usage, and NPC interactions, then I think it should have happened to me by now.
After 110 hours of playing it might be a good time for you to go outside and catch some sunlight haha.
meh i get sunlight think i have clocked 136 and 10 hrs on 2 characters played S.I no problems have the full 1250 points to prove it
I have completed the main storyline in the expansion (still have many side quests to do
), and have only encountered one freezing problem which I managed to get around quite easily.
All in all a brilliant expansion IMHO.
Its a great expansion, but I’ve done all the SI quests and side quest and it took nowhere near 30 hours to complete. Anyway Ive just got a couple of Fighter guild and Theives guild quest to do before I have completed the full 1250gp.
i’ve seen object dissapear but it never crashed
