Capcom Gamers Day unveils 4 new XBLA titles
Yesterday, Capcom held their annual Gamers’ Day conference and unveiled four new Xbox Live Arcade titles that are in development as part of the company’s new focus on downloadable content. The list of games coming soon to XBLA, PSN, and PC include Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Rocketmen: Axis of Evil, and Talisman.
It’s no surprise that after the commercial success of Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting on XBLA, Capcom would soon bring some of their most well-known franchises over to support to the blooming digital platform. The company’s new initiative was declared by Jack Symon, director of brand marketing at Capcom Entertainment:
“We intend to be a major player in this space by using a combination of classic Capcom IP, licensed IP and, in the future, harnessing some of the biggest names in game development to create new classic experiences.”
With the help of Udon Entertainment, Capcom plans to bring Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix [insert additional adjectives] to next-generation consoles and the PC this fall boasting newly created 1080p HD graphics, several new game modes, improved game balance, new stage backgrounds, and online play. For those unfamiliar with the Puzzle Fighter series, it’s essentially a gem puzzle game that features super deformed characters from classic Capcom franchises, Street Fighter and Darkstalkers. The series has created quite a following in the past 10 years and for those that happen to be Puzzle Fighter elitist sand prefer the game unchanged, Udon plans to offer the option of playing the game sans improvements.
Their second offering will lend another entry of the Street Fighter series to the 3 previously mentioned platforms this Fall, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. Much like the reincarnation of Puzzle Fighter, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will be fitted with updated 1080p visuals redrawn by Udon Entertainment, the company responsible for the official US Street Fighter series of comics. The game will include both online and offline competition for one to two players. No word on whether or not Capcom will include similar features that graced their earlier Street Fighter effort on XBLA.
Capcom has acquired the rights to produce a game based on WizKids’ popular strategy board game, Rocketmen: Axis of Evil, for XBLA and PSN in the Fall of 2007. As a member of the Alliance of Free Planets, players will battle to free the Solar System with up to four players cooperatively offline and online. This top-down arcade shooter resembles some other titles on XBLA, including Assault Heroes and Smash TV giving control over moment to the left thumbstick and shooting to the right stick. Rocketmen looks to feature cell-shaded graphics (pictured above) and intense action gameplay that is sure to please many arcade shooter fans.
In addition to Rocketmen, Capcom also plan on releasing an adaptation of Games Workshop’s classic board game known as Talisman. Talisman is a fantasy role-playing board game with over 25 characters to choose from as you and three others jump online to dungeon crawl and battle deadly creatures. This one however will stick to its board game roots with a 3D representation of the playing board. As of right now, that’s pretty much all we know of Talisman. No screenshots have been provided just yet as the game will be making its way onto XBLA PSN, and the PC much later than the three others, in Q4 2007.
After the flawed experience of Capcom’s last XBLA outing with Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting, I was sorely disappointed how they handled the port, here’s hoping they’ve learned their lesson and have the experience and know-how to create some spectacular releases. What about you, are you excited for any of Capcom’s future XBLA titles? Expect to hear more about these 4 upcoming titles in the months to come.

super puzzle fighter 2 turbo: best game for ps1. ZOmG!!!
super puzzle fighter!?!? zomg, possibly one of the most entertaining/best games of all time. even just a remake would be awesome, but it sounds like they are practically making a sequel. i guess its good and bad that it will be on PC and xbox. i can get it for “free” most likely on PC, but im always looking for more new excuses to go use my 360.
Rocketmen:AoE kinda looks like Powerstone, which is cool.
Can i jsut have my 360 back:(
just*
…
As i just pointed out on Playstatic i will be buying SFII Remix on the PS3 for one simple reason. A D-Pad that actually works.
£425 is a lot to pay for a joypad though.
£279 is even more if the bloody thing doesn’t work right.
Just spend £30 and get the arcade stick from MadCatz, the D-Pad on that is fantastic!
Just use the guitar controller.
Dang, I was hoping they would bring out Legendary Wings for XBLA
