Yeah but timewise it’s much better to spend it playing either of those than this. I had the most fun with it catching a buzz and playing freestyle mode. At least you can look at the explosions that way.

Here’s what I think…it’s a pretty fun game but you won’t be playing it for ages as it’s rather repetitive and extremely difficult for most on hard and even rather a challenge on medium

Bottom line:
Castlevania > Geometry Wars > Alien Hominid HD > Boom Boom Rocket

I actually disagree with some of the points in the review, I don’t think the backgrounds/fireworks look nice, the backgrounds in particular look awful to me. The fireworks themselves look ok, but this is a game for which graphical appeal should be dazzling, and it isn’t. Geo Wars still makes my friends go “woah” when they see the background warp, etc, but this one just looks like an amateur fireworks screen saver. I didn’t really care for the music either, but maybe my tastes are just different. The feedback is very poor as well; it’s very difficult (I found) to tell if you hit the note just right. Yeah you get the “Awesome” or “Perfect” appearing at the bottom but on any remotely difficulty setting you won’t have the chance to see that as there’s just way too much going on at once. Overall I found it more frustrating than addictive. Just didn’t understand the appeal of this one at all, and am glad I didn’t drop the 800 points for it.

Set the game to HARD MODE then release yourself into music!

and people are complaining about the graphics and how all you do it “press buttons” well first of all, what do you really expect graphically from an arcade game about fireworks??? and also, how can you complain about the game being about “just pressing buttons”, every game has its own form of controls, geometry wars uses the 2 sticks, lumines uses the d-pad, etc. Sounds to me like you people dont have anything else to complain about than little things like that but you overlook the fatc of how simply addicting the game is on endurance mode once you get enough practice. the demo doesnt serve this game any justice, the real meat of this game is in endurance mode, not in the boring standard mode…8 of 10 is exactly what the game deserves.

I’d give it a 5 out of a 10. It’s really pretty boring and if you are going to press buttons to a beat you’d have a lot more fun with Guitar Hero 2 or Dance Dance Revolution. The fireworks don’t look that great graphically either.

excellent game, one of the best to come out in a while. could have used live multiplayer though, but then again the lag would be beyond bearable, just like lumines live.
