Worms: Patch soon; DLC news
It’s been quite some time since Worms graced us on the Arcade. It’s a great game, but it had some faults, particularly with hosting games. Not only that, but the game was severely lacking in content thanks to the now-removed 50 MB cap. It seems that both these two problems are soon to be rectified.
Firstly, the patch. We heard rumblings about it last month, and it has now entered certification. It is hoped that the patch will be with us in the next week or two.
The update for Worms XBLA is now in the hands of the test group and due to go into a final certification check soon. We’d hope that this means it’s available in the next couple of weeks. It’s taken some time because with the title being heavy multi-player there’s a lot to check etc. Sorry for the delay.
As for DLC, many of you will be delighted to know that Team17 are doing their very best to make it free. Whilst picture and theme packs will cost the usual amount, the Speech Banks are hoped to be free. Official word:

Expect additional speech packs, level themes, more audio, gamerpics and dashboard themes from then on. Some of the content will be charged, some will be free.

It’s great to see the game being constantly updated, especially if at least some of the content can be free. The patch will certainly make a big difference too, as it will also feature other bug fixes other than the hosting problems, like speeding up the ridiculously slow AI. It’s great to see the return of some of the great voice banks too, because they really do make the game what it is.

I’ll believe it’s free when I see it on the Marketplace for free. MS has a nasty habit of “persuading” (some might call it ‘forcing’) companies to charge for DLC…
id rather have more weapons than almost all of this, besides the technical fixes like the AI and hosting. sure the voice banks are cool and backgrounds are cool and stuff, but honestly when it comes down to it, its about the weapons because they are the gameplay which is the whole point. i could have just about as much fun playing worms with the same generic background and no sound. id much rather they bring back the old lady, super sheep, holy hand grenade, baseball bat and the likes. in a perfect world it would also be nice if they would allow for more worms to a team. i know there’s a lot of talk of wanting to make it balanced and more fair, but id rather have a company give you as much as they can, have the potential to be unbalanced, instead of them moderating it for you. just give us everything and then the players can decide. thats why the whole point of custom settings!
Yeah leave it to the players right? I’d rather work around the limited weapons set than have the chance of an unbalanced game.
I, at first, thought worms was gonna be bad because of the limited weapons set, but instead, next bankshot billiards 2, it’s my favorite game that I play casually on line. I actually like it for the limited weapons because it gives me that much more opportunity to be creative. Super Sheep? No way, that’s too offsetting. Holy Hand grenade? In a weapons crate, yes, starting out? no. Old lady? Yeah sure, that’s fine and funny. Baseball bat? Bring it on.
oh btw. bravo team17 for making it free. hopefully MS doesnt screw this over too like the guy above me said.

Relax, the Angry scots bank was done by a Scotsman. There are other scottish voices to come (and many other comedy banks).
Ok so remind me why the Scots are the only ones that have been stereotyped? Out of all of those suggested banks its only us that are the angry ones? I’m just curious as to why it couldn’t have just been Scotish.
