Everyone loves money. It perhaps cannot buy you love, but is that necessary when you have a cool $100,000 sitting in the bank? For a while at least, you’re unlikely to care for love. You are going to have to have some skill in filming though for the opportunity to win that $100,000, since the contest entails you to create a pilot episode of an original TV series.
If, like me, you lack such creative ideas as thinking up a brand new TV programme, then this perhaps isn’t for you. Nor is it for you if you don’t know how to wield a camcorder. If you do, and you’re over 18 years of age and reside in one of the 25 countries that have Xbox Live (yes Europe, this is available to you too!), then get ready to create a 5-15 minute pilot show. It can be about anything you wish, animated or live-action.
There is a $25 entry fee, but if you provide a photocopy of a current, valid student ID you don’t have to pay. You might want to read the full Terms and Conditions to check what formats you can use and so on. Unsurprisingly, “Programs created or funded by broadcast networks, cable networks or studios are ineligible”. Fair competition then!
It sounds pretty good and it will be interesting to see what comes from this. The main prize is that the winner of the contest will receive a $100,000 deal with Xbox LIVE to create a six-episode series based on the short pilot, as well as an exclusive screening event at the 2007 New York Television Festival. Now that would be an honour.
The competition is running now, and closes on the 29th June. Let us know if you plan on entering this.
