Spring backwards compatibility update available

Xbox gamers have been pining over the shortage of backwards compatibility changes on the Xbox 360 for many months now. The good news is that today Microsoft has unleashed an impressive update that looks to calm the nerves of many of those who’ve eagerly awaited it.

For those without Xbox Live and an internet connection, just head over to Xbox.com for a download package that can be burned to a disc to be installed on your Xbox 360. Of course, if you have Xbox Live just insert a classic Xbox title to receive the prompt for the update. Here’s a complete list of the newly supported Xbox titles:

Backwards Compatibility update on Xbox 360 for Spring - Avatar: The Last Airbender
- Breakdown
- Call of Duty 2: Big Red One
- Call of Duty 3
- Cars
- Crash Bandicoot 5: Wrath of Cortex
- Dai Senryaku VII: Modern Military Tactics
- FIFA Soccer 2007
- Full Spectrum Warrior
- Guilty Gear Isuka
- JSRF: Jet Set Radio Future
- MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf
- Mercenaries
- NASCAR 2006: Total Team Control
- NFL Fever 2004
- Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee
- Panzer Dragoon ORTA
- Phantom Dust
- Reservoir Dogs
- Return To Castle Wolfenstein
- RugbyLeague 2
- Sonic Riders
- Star Wars Republic Commando
- Street Fighter Anniversary Collection
- The King of Fighters Neowave
- The King of Fighters 2002 & 2003
- Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 07
- Tony Hawk’s Underground
- Ultra Bust-A-Move
- Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict
- Xiaolin Showdown

Additionally, one title has received a fix with this update - Soul Calibur II. All in all, the Spring BC update is impressive and offers a healthy selection of popular games that had not previously been supported. It certainly looks to be a good time to wipe the dust off copies of Phantom Dust, Panzer Dragoon ORTA, and Mercenaries. How’s this update faring for you and are there any other titles you’d like to see in future updates?

Thanks to Rafe, Mike T., nofear360, CleanSweep31, and any others who submitted.

Would be nice to have seen TOCA2 as one of the BC updates

is this for the UK or just the US? The uk bc list has not been updated since december and as far as I know soul calibur has never worked over here so needs more than just a fix.

I would love to Panzer Dragoon at 720p.

Will work with PAL games. Soul Calibur II now works just fine. However, JSRF and Project Zero don’t work.

NFL 2K5?????? wtf????

The NFL and NFLPA will never allow that to happen. And I say good riddance to that shitty game.

Come on guys, it’s time to leave the Xbox and move on to the 360.

We need the original Splinter Cell for starters. The Suffering 2, Area 51 and Destroy All Humans 2 would be great. Oh and Morrowind as well. That’s about the only original ones I have left that haven’t been converted yet.

“Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell®
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® Chaos Theory™
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® Pandora Tomorrow™” straight from the site. unless it’s not compatible outside of the US.

whie backwards compatability has never really been important to me, I’m glad to see the update. Jet Set Radio future seems (at least to me) to be the best addition. I loved that game. The soundtrack was awesome. However, I’m alittle disappointed that spiderman 2 STILL hasn’t been added to the list. Guess it doesnt mean anything now with S3 coming out a just a few weeks…

This was what i was thinking….until i read major nelson’s blog (http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/04/19/april-07-back-compat-update.aspx)
it states that Spider Man 2 is BC

just tried it and the only problem i can find is that the video sequences can be a bit jumpy - the actual game runs smoothly…can’t wait for SM3 now:)

Argggh!!! My 360 has been bricked by the update. All was well until I decided to try Soul Calibur II and now its red lights all the way.

For a console that has so very few rpgs, I can not believe Elderscrolls III: Morrowind has not been made b/c. This game is a landmark and would allow Bethesda to support it even further with xboxlive marketplace. I see a lot of untapped $$$. What a stupid move. I played Morrowind on pc and xbox for countless hours I would love access to this game on the 360.

For everyone out ther that didnt play morrowind, it is the father to Oblivion and provides more depth and diversity than its son. Although Oblivion is beautiful and excellent in its own right, Morrowind is the pinnacle of rpgs to date. I can only hope they find a way to hybridize the two, that would be perfection.
