Tron times two for XBLA?

Microsoft have been getting carried away with the double offering of games that we have seen over the past two weeks, and it seems to be rubbing off on developers. IGN received word that we could well be seeing two games from the Tron series, including the one we hinted at last week.

IGN received a strange packet at their office, which included a DVD copy of Tron (starring “The Dude” Jeff Bridges) and a note, which read the following:

“SARK IS READY ARE YOU?

Two classics return this summer…to the Arcade. More data to be downloaded soon.”

These babies were found here

Disney Interactive are still yet to confirm anything with regards to the existence of an Arcade version, but this is pretty conclusive evidence that we will see Discs of Tron and perhaps Tron on the Arcade. As IGN point out, it is unclear as to whether or not the games will come together or sold separately. Maybe they will be offered as another double header for a Wednesday in the Summer.

it might not be so big overseas. im just guessing, but seeing as there are a lot of europeans on this site, it could be that tron never really made it off the north american continent. rergardless for those who dont know:

Don’t download either of them…they’re gonna be the worst games available on XBLA. Mark my words.

I think that spot is already taken by Worms…

:P

Let the flame war commence.

P.S. I was just kidding!

Discs of Tron won’t be bad if they have multiplayer online. The original Tron umm OK I won’t be buying that one. I feel old too and I am haha. It’s sad people don’t know what Tron is. It’s the first movie to be all computer animation. You’ll also laugh at how primitive they were back then. The N64 produces way better graphics then the Cray supercomputers they used to make Tron!

They could easily make a sweet lightcycle game for live arcade.

Ah…………………. TRON. Class. I really think it influenced my love of games when I was much younger, but it really hasn’t aged well. Take it everyone who remembers the film clocked the adidas TRON shoes released a while back? (http://www.zerosign.net/images/tronshoe.jpg)

Nice Big Lebowski reference in the post too :D

That rug really tied the room together………………

Nobody fuck with the Tron

I reckon they should bring a HD version of Tron to the marketplace, now that is something that would be worth downloading!

When i was at college we used to play a network game that was based around the lightcycles. Anyone got an idea what that was??

Comment by Balti on 2007-04-27 10:04:20 | Reply

Good grief, we’ve had Tron in the form of Snakes on our mobile phones for years - why on earth do we need a HD version? As suggested, this will be the worst thing on XBLA, by a country mile.

Comment by H1tchman on 2007-04-27 11:14:36 | Reply

I meant the film Balti.

Comment by Balti on 2007-04-27 12:37:37 | Reply

And I said XBLA. I meant HD version of the original game. Sorry.

Awesome I remember the Tron arcade there was a cabinet in our local arcade.

doh! over use of the word Arcade, Aracde!!

It will lose something in the transition simply because it was designed around a joystick/spinny thing (great term couldn’t think of what to call it) and without it the gameplay will lose a lot of it’s fun.

For all you whippasnappers out there look at the cabinet on the right see that round thing to left of the joystick that is the 360 spinny thing i am talking about. It was very rapid and very accurate without this game will suck.

Now were is my zimmer frame? i feel old.

Comment by Number13 on 2007-04-27 14:50:42 | Reply

You mean a trackball?

They were all the vogue for us children of the 80s!

Comment by ManoDestra on 2007-04-27 12:22:10 | Reply

Rollerball.

Comment by T_A_B on 2007-04-27 17:28:47 | Reply

@ hitchman: GL lightcycles probably, one of the best implementations of the lightcycles.

@ Number12: Nope it was not a trackball. It was rotational switch that let you target in 360 degree’s. It was more like a mouse wheel mounted on its side than a track ball. It was heavily weighted though and you could spin the crap out of it for rapid targeting. They will probably use the second analogue stick to emulate this which will suck imo.

Comment by Lotus 111s on 2007-04-27 20:39:17 | Reply

Your right it could be spun at warp speed, it was a great little gameplay device that worked perfectly.

the spinny thing on the arcade cabinet is not a trackball..more like the dial thing that came on those old pong tv games..you know…with the two white sticks and the square blip that you’ld hit back and forth.
