Burnout 5 gets official name and date

A sequel to the highly popular Burnout series was announced last year, but an official name and release date weren’t mentioned at that point. We’re glad we can finally tell you that the full name will be Burnout Paradise and it will be coming to us this Winter.

Along with these announcements, a couple of pictures and a video were released. Developer Criterion went in a new direction with this next iteration of the series since they’re unleashing the Burnout experience in an open world environment.

“We have been working towards Burnout Paradise for quite some time. Next generation consoles have opened up a raft of new gameplay opportunities and the Criterion team has leapt at the chance to innovate and raise the bar to an all-new high,” said Pete Hawley, Executive Producer, Burnout Paradise. “There are going to be some big surprises and a lot of new features but the core of the game is still pure Burnout. Instant accessibility will be reinforced by innovative on-line capabilities which will see Burnout Paradise smash racing conventions.’’

We’re definitely looking forward to the first real next generation Burnout game.

I’ll agree and disagree, Burnout definately attracts an aquired taste, its a great game for serious action seekers. I personally prefer more sim racers such as Forza or Gran Turismo. Since they’re looking into making Burnout a more online orientated game it could be a winner. I’ll wait to see what reviews it gets before putting it on my wish list.

As long as the soundtrack isn’t full of emo shit I may consider buying this.

So you buy games for soundtracks?

Comment by wo on 2007-04-30 18:55:18 | Reply

Don’t think I even said that. If the soundtrack to a game is shit then it can often have a negative effect on the game. You shouldn’t assume things, makes you look stupid when the other person replies.

Oh, so you DO buy games for soundtracks. Thank you!

And one more thing. A game’s soundtrack is a deciding factor for you. That’s sad. It’s you who’s gonna appear stupid lol, not me.

Lol, It does make him appear stupid for the simple fact that it doesn’t matter WHAT soundtrack the game is. The 360 can do custom soundtracks so you can play your OWN music.

Exactly!

Again, I never said I buy games for soundtracks. Maybe I didn’t make myself clear enough. If a game has a rubbish soundtrack it can have a negative effect on the game. Nobody would want to play a game where the music annoys them.

Each to their own ;)

Which is why you can have a custom soundtrack, useful in games like this where the music being played is just a backing track rather than an actual soundtrack.

Obviously “Bjork - Oh so quiet” might not work to well over something like Resident Evil (could be quite amusing though) to create the mood but doesn’t really matter what tunes you play over a racing game.

I thought the next Burnout wasn’t coming to the 360, or am I confusing it with something else?

Comment by nofear360 on 2007-04-30 16:56:07 | Reply

I think Criterion’s endless praise of the PS3 might have had something to do with that lol.

After Forza Mortorsport and Mario Kart, this is my favorite racing franchise.

I realy enjoyed burnout Revenge. This game is now on my list.

None of the burnouts compare to Burnout 3, the new ones are OK but you shouldnt be able to check traffic without crashing, that pretty much takes the point out of racing.

omg sweet last burnout ruled! this looks good but gameplay ill just have to wait!

Burnout is my favorite racing game (no, I don’t like PGR or Forza or Gran Turismo…) and I’m looking forward to this game too. If they can bring back the magic of Burnout 2 and 3, I’m sure I’ll be happy enough. And the first thing I do is turn off the music… who races to in game music anymore anyway?

Comment by The_Glovner on 2007-05-01 15:05:45 | Reply

Agree with you on music, don’t play PGR or Forza?!?!!? Clearly shit at racing without having to hit anything then.
