Elite: sells out; same old problems
The Elite promised a lot. The next step in HD gaming with the HDMI port, the next step in storage space with the 120 GB HDD, and hopefully the next step in fixing hardware issues. Americans snapped them up, with Sold Out signs everywhere. But hardware problems are reportedly still cropping up.
The above video is one of apparently many Elite systems that are having problems. Disc scratching and the “Disc unreadable” error are problems that plagued the original Core and Premium systems. It was hoped that the problems would be fixed, but reports are suggesting otherwise. The three red lights have been arising as well. Not good news.
Good news for Microsoft though is that the system has been a sell out on day one. Amazon.com, offering pre-orders, sold out as did high street stores apparently.
Have you picked up an Elite system yet? Did it crash out on you as soon as you plugged it in?

I brought the elite already. I was in line since 4 in the morning with a friend. We were the first in line of about 30 people.
So far all I did was connect it and set it up. I haven’t had a chance to play any games yet and for some reason I can’t connect to XBL but that’s cause of my connection at home. But I haven’t had any problems yet.
I had no problem to buy, no line, nothing.
I didn’t pick one up. I may need to though. I just bought a new 42 inch Toshiba Regza and when I plug it in it says “no signal”. I am thinking if I get the elite with the HDMI Cable I will be fine.
Any suggestions????
Are you sure that you:
a) have it on the right channel input?
b) fully plugged in the connectors?
Yes on both.
I tested on both Component inputs.
I checked the channel inputs.
I can hear sound but no picture.
Works through regular video input just no HD.
This would totally suck.
I bought this tv because of the great deal on it. But if I cant play my xbox on it, it might not be worth it to me.
Are you sure you’re definitely using the component leads (not red, yellow, white, the blue, green and red (?))
I had this problem with my regza, you need to make sure that the yellow cable is unplugged from the side before it will work. The two inputs screw up the picture. Give it a try.

Hitchman, what did you do exactly? And are your cables plugged in on the side or the back.
I thought the side was just for regular video not HD/component.
also, it may be trying to display is a resolution your new tv doesn’t support (like 720p) make sure of what your tv will display, then use the yellow only (no rgb) and set your resolution accordingly.
Also, Make sure the switch on the cable is set to HD.

oh yeah, and the little flippy switch on the side of the cable where it plugs into the 360….

Basically I have my 360 plugged in using the RGB cables as usual. I also had a yellow video cable plugged in the side of the tv which was coming from a different console (PS2 *Cough*) The two sets of cables interferred with each other and interupted the signal. Once the yellow cables is unplugged then it worked. This may solve your problem if you have a secondary video cable plugged in. You need to use Ext 3 to display the picture. The channel should show 3C instead of 3 once its correctly wired. Try the elite on a different TV then I’d contact Toshiba if you can’t sort it.

Same problem. I even took it to circuit city where it was purchased to see if it was my xbox. It was not. same problem on their tv. I guess its not compatible which sucks because its a great tv.
Thats really strange, are you in the US? I’m from the UK so may be different. I’ve got the Toshiba 32″ Regza so it really should work fine. It really is a great TV.
US. They had elite’s in stock I was five seconds from buying one.
Make sure your Xbox 360 is not set for 480i. My HDTV won’t display 480i at all.

i dont think its worth it for hdmi and some extra space. they (microsoft) acts like everyone is made of money and has the money to buy movies, games etc. to fill up 120 gigs.
I’ve got shiny black vinyl stickers on mine, so it looks BETTER than the dull black of the Elite anyway. All I need is a black controller and a bigger HD
once my 360 breaks i’ll buy an elite but i will get an elite for halo 3 and its 1080 p
the thing is - the current 360 will run Halo 3 in 1080p just as well as the Elite. Both consoles feature scaling chips. The only difference is the Elite has HDMI. No performance differences whatsoever.
Your wrong mate, i have a 1080p set (LC-42XD1E) and it will not display 1080p.
The reason for this is that the VGA at 1080p doesnt work and should be fixed in the next update.

1080p can be sent over Component (as well as VGA for that matter). Now, if your TV just doesn’t support 1080p over those inputs, that’s a different story.

Yep, he is right. 1080p can be sent over component. Component and VGA are both analogue connections, so the only difference in support would be whether your TV supports it.
HDMI is only required for 1080p that has HDCP (specifically the image-constraint token) enabled.

OK looks like I wont be bothering witht this when it is released here (UK). I’ll just buy the HDD and controller. I have full 1080p through VGA anyway.

If its a samsung then its upscaling to 1080p and isnt a true 1080p source signal.
I have a 42xd1e and it doesnt display 1080p over VGA, only over HDMI will it give the 1080p signal.

There’s no such thing as an electronic device without flaws, but Microsoft should have checked the quality of the elite’s components more after 360’s had been reported doing such things

flaws are fine, defects are not! i had the 360 since launch and when it died i went with the ps3 because there are no reported defects in the hardware. if you don’t believe me then try to find one and show me!
i love the 360 and i do miss it but i will not buy another one untill ms changes the hardware in that thing!

Def a rich sony fanboy that could afford to buy an elite just to make this video. Notice the game was Sneak King because they didnt want to destroy an actual good game. Prob rubbed the disc with a sheet of sandpaper before putting it in.

Funny you mentioned Toshiba. I got the elite yesterday, plugged the HDMI cable into my Toshiba 42LZ196 and selected 1080p as the output….worked right away and it looks amazing. Also hooked up the HD-DVD player and watched my first movie in actual 1080p…was incredible.

I got an Elite yesterday. No problems so far. I played R6 Vegas for about 3 hours and I played gears just as long. Its still working.

I was at Best Buy today to get my 120gig HDD and there were a half-dozen elites just chillen on a display.

just got a new elite wired up through hdmi to 1080p tv, with 5.1 dolby surround sound!!! now i can play system link with my white one upstairs and the elite downstairs, they are both on the same network.
