Forza 2 demo now available

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines. If you hop over to your sexy new Marketplace blades and check the New Arrivals in the Demos section you’ll find the Forza Motorsport 2 demo. It’s 691MB in size. We already told you twice but we figured we’d take this opportunity to tell you again that the demo features 24 cars in three different classes to choose from. Full list of those cars and further details after the jump.

But what’s the point of customizing your car if you can’t save it or take it online for others to see? Forza Motorsport 2 will be available exclusively on the Xbox 360, it’s slated for a release on May 29th in the US and June 8th in Europe.

No images available specifically from the demo, sorry.

What do you mean exactly? Are they merely PGR3 level?….

Comment by Timelord on 2007-05-10 12:57:13 | Reply

Why do we in the UK have to always wait a week for the release.

Thanks M$ for the demo. Cannot wait to get in. Can anyone let us know how the M$ wheel is with the demo

are there no race cars in the demo then? I thought there were going to be 24 cars?

Whoops that’s not the entire list, my bad, let me see if I can add the 8 missing cars.

Ok I updated the list, turns out the cars in the R2 class weren’t announced yet. I typed them out by hand using the demo but I’m a car n00b so there might be some errors in it, let me know if you find any.

this game is zo f*cking brilliant…

24 cars on 1 short track is already addictive, imagine the full game with 45 tracks & 311 cars :S

this really is the most realistic racesim ever made. Props to Turn10

Comment by Worms on 2007-05-10 15:31:24 | Reply

Nice! Track graphics are really good. Car models are great, damage effets are good. Car engine sounds are great too along with the physics. I may have to buy a wheel for this one.

Comment by Thryon on 2007-05-10 15:48:26 | Reply

I also tried the demo, and had the same quick impression about the graphics…they are jaggies everywhere. I hope they can correct that problem in the final realease.

But, once you start racing, you do not notice the jaggies, and just enjoy the game. It remains on my list.

Comment by Ghost dog 81 on 2007-05-11 02:44:54 | Reply

Those jaggies are caused by your Tv.I see absolutely no jaggies when i play it.

Great game until you plug the wheel in, i am SO disappointed with the Force feedback wheel. It is either a shit wheel or the game does a piss poor job of supporting it. This is the FIRST time i can ever say that the game is easier with a joypad, i had a blast round with a few cars with the joypad and was winning every race easily, i plug in the wheel and OMG what have they done, first problem is Full throttle at just 1/3rd of pedal travel so its more like playing with a button, second problem the deadzone is devoid of feedback so you can end up fishtailing down the straights when trying to do little overtaking manoeuvres. I hope they add some wheel configuration to the full game, if not anyone want to buy a cheap force feedback wheel?

Still i will be buying this game as it is superb with the joypad.

Comment by lynX on 2007-05-10 17:12:49 | Reply

you should try learning to use the wheel, it’s subtle and the feedback you get is really unsurpassed… brilliant if anything!

Comment by Nekro on 2007-05-11 00:50:55 | Reply

ever thought that the wheel is not supported fully in the demo?

you guys complaining about graphics… SHUT THE HELL UP….

You all whine when its got lag or slow fps… now that Forza gives us 60fps LOCKED and 330+fps of phyics calculations you’re gonna complain over “JAGGIES” GIVE ME A FRIGGNG BREAK!

What the hella re you people expecting? Photorealistic with all the effects and no jaggies, at 120fps and 90000fps physics? Sorry we don’t live in the god d*mn matrix

LOL

Comment by Worms on 2007-05-10 19:04:42 | Reply

I really didn’t notice jaggies. I’m playing in 1080i on a 50″ DLP. Game looked great too me. My only complaint is lack of a cockpit view. TDU spoiled me on that. But I race in TDU with hood view which Forza has so no big deal. Nice tapping the back corner of a car and denting it, shattering the brake light with a nice glass breaking sound.

Really looking forward to the full game now!

People dont realise that not everyone has the jaggies problem. Its to do with their Tv’s native pixel count or something.I have absolutely zero jaggies, seriously it looks like the screenshot above on my Tv.

Yeah Chris, we do not live in the god d*amn Matrix, but I can tell from your words that you haven’t seen or played any of the first gen PS3 games. Honestly, if this is all X360 has to offer I’d rather start saving for the f*cking black thing right now…

Comment by Nickfury187 on 2007-05-10 16:49:47 | Reply

The Elite??? :)

Comment by dirty duck on 2007-05-10 18:48:58 | Reply

Borjadvance all i can say to you is your a prick.

Behave 1st gen ps3 titles are utter shit (well mototrstorm aint to bad but its still crap after 30 mins of play)

I would rather have jaggies and a solid 60fps than 30 fps and no jaggies.

Comment by trj156 on 2007-05-10 22:33:59 | Reply

60fps over anything any day.

Comment by Borjadvance on 2007-05-10 17:32:38 | Reply

Sure, sure, the elite…… I was precisely thinking of buying the same machine just twice. It definitely supports the pricing argument… and when he talks about photorealistic graphics with “everything on”, well, that’s precisely what the ppl at MS were saying, almost with those words (even the text acompanying the download of the demo is similar)

Comment by Worms on 2007-05-10 19:06:42 | Reply

You’re comparing MotorStorm to Forza? You can’t even compare it to PGR3 or TDU. ahahaha

Comment by splattered on 2007-05-10 18:12:44 | Reply

What are you talking about Borjadvance? PS3 graphics are pretty much crap right now… “Untapped potential” my ass. Its just an excuse for “Uhh yeah we made something and we don’t know how to use it… but we paid a lot for it so i’m sure it’s gotta do SOMETHING!” The ps3 is a freaking joke and this generation is gonna be too neck to neck for your comfort. Sorry chump!

“Lap the Competition: With true next-generation features made possible by the power of Xbox 360, Forza Motorsport 2 burns rubber at 60 fps with 4x full-screen anti-aliasing, and high-dynamic-range lighting in crisp 720p high-definition glory. Feel every nuance of your car and the road thanks to support for the official Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel.”

4xAA - Yeah right, don’t make me laugh.

Theres only one car on a track at a time in GTHD, and even then, the link you’re showing is replay graphics, which has further graphical effects enabled that the in-game engine doesn’t.

Sorry, you fail.

Comment by Sean on 2007-05-11 09:01:46 | Reply

oh, and no damage modelling either. That means more polys can be on the exterior of the car, unlike Forza, which needs to accommodate the parts revealed when pieces of bodykit fall off.

Comment by Borjadvance on 2007-05-10 19:08:38 | Reply

I am not a PS3 freak or anything, splattered, and I really see no sense in cross-statements about power and the like. I just say, and I say bc I see it, that x360 anti-aliasing sucks. The one in PS3 doesn’t, and I can tell since I have both hooked to the same TV-Set. As for general graphic quality, I don’t really know. What I am sure about after 4 xbox 360 (no wonder it’s just 6€ to assemble one of this) is that 360’s aliasing, frame rates and v-sync suck muuuuuuch more often. And that only with first-gen ps3 software vs 1,25 year long xbox 360 experience. Darren/Kainz, you got it, that was exaclty what I was referring to. That’s simply lying, I can’t believe there is 4x anti-alias anywhere

Comment by Worms on 2007-05-10 19:36:02 | Reply

Enjoy your PS3 then.

Comment by Sean on 2007-05-11 08:57:09 | Reply

you do know that PS3 games (first wave) have been in development just as long as 2nd wave 360 games such as Gears and Lost Planet? Now, tbf… both games look better than any PS3 equivalents (Gears doesn’t even have AA, UE3 doesn’t support it, and it still looks better)

Comment by Sean on 2007-05-11 08:57:52 | Reply

oh, and the general launch lineup of the PS3 (ports included) had lower frame rates than the 360, and more frame rate stuttering.

The graphics aren’t great on an SD TV would like to see high def.

Comment by George Podge on 2007-05-10 20:07:20 | Reply

blimey the graphics are so dissapointing. They are jaggies everywhere.
I hope this is not to be the case in the final realease or I’ll probably thinnk twice about buying.

Comment by Borjadvance on 2007-05-10 21:01:09 | Reply

well, seems I am not alone…

Comment by Ne5suNo on 2007-05-10 21:14:23 | Reply

The game is a lot fun and a lot realistic on the graphics side MMmm i was expecting more… Texture shadows and car effects are not so great.

Comment by newmodel on 2007-05-10 21:48:28 | Reply

The graphics fall a little flat but I don’t think this game is for graphic whores anyways.

My thoughts exactly. The gameplay is awesome. Only played like 30min, but it really brought back some awesome memories of part 1. I sure as hell can’t wait for the release!

Comment by StGermain on 2007-05-10 22:05:18 | Reply

The graphics are a bit disappointing, it’s like forza 1 with PGR3 graphics… I expected something better than that. Also it feels easier than forza 1… I could easily win the race with any car in the demo. I was going to buy this one the day it came in the stores but I might way untill it hits the classic list now…

Comment by Timelord on 2007-05-10 22:23:52 | Reply

This is stunning.
I understand what people are saying about the car models but one thing that hasn’t been mentioned is that you can add parts and paint jobs. Remember the car models have to accommodate this. If we did’nt have this then the models would be that little more photo realistic. Come on guys we cannot have everything. With the steering wheel I have to agree although theres an option to adjust the wheel in the full version.
Theres just to much to this game and the demo is a taster. Enjoy and behold the next few months of motorsport bliss

Comment by rol on 2007-05-11 00:06:22 | Reply

Simulation damage is off and as it’s a demo the difficulty may be easy but more likely it’s medium. Still it delivers forza for the 360. Not a great leap but it didn’t need to be.

Comment by Nekro on 2007-05-11 04:01:34 | Reply

If that’s set to medium, then I’m Santa. You can make it more difficult though, if you switch the assists off, and I mean all of them.

Comment by zarbor on 2007-05-11 06:08:49 | Reply

I stand corrected. This game looks very good in HD at 60fps. The only knock is the cars that have slight jaggies. Some cars don’t have it as much and some colors don’t show it as much.

If they fix that on all the cars, it will be a must have title.

Comment by freduk on 2007-05-11 07:48:52 | Reply

Really nice game but graphics are not that great, I put on the driver view (if you can call it so) and WHAT??? the reflections what a mess, the trees everything looks so bad, the reflections are much better in game like test drive. But I’d give it a good 8.5/10.

Comment by Agilulfo on 2007-05-14 10:56:17 | Reply

After reading all the bad comments in various forums, I thought that I’d be disappointed from the demo… And I was not.
It plays great, it’s silk-smooth and it looks good.
Sure, the demo is easy (actually Turn 10 states that the difficulty is “medium”).
Sure, the damage effects are turned off - so you can’t judge about their actual impact on car’s performance.
Sure, it’s not Gears of War in terms of visuals… and YES - THERE ARE JAGGIES EVEN IN HD…. But it’s not a big problem to me, given that still the game is exceptionally smooth.

The thing is, we need to realize that the X360 is not the “super-ultimate-gamemachine-so-much-more-powerful-than-PS3-PS4-PS5-Any alienware PCs)… and the 60fps of Forza 2 are an outstanding technical achievement if you consider the level of detail.

From what I have seen and played in the demo, Forza 2 is a rock solid racing game with the potential of being the best racing game on a console so far.

All the criticism seem to be ralated to the childish console war - since the GTHD demo looks better IMHO.
But please, do not stop at this. In terms of gameplay and realism, to me, Forza and GT are not even in the same league.
