Some Unreal Tournament 3 details revealed, including co-op

The guys over at TeamXbox seem to have read the latest OXM thoroughly and found a 6 page article about Unreal Tournament 3. The development is coming along nicely and it’ll even have some features only confirmed for the Xbox 360 version so far.

According to OXM editors, the game is already looking better than Gears. It’s been six months since Gears of War and Epic Games has been improving the game engine ever since. The Xbox 360 version will support four-player co-op and two-player split-screen in the single-player campaign where it will let you take different paths depending on the decisions you take. This doesn’t necessarily mean these features are exclusive to the Xbox 360, but they’re still nice features. Furthermore, 18 vehicles will be available, as well as 5 different turrets for you to play with.

UT3’s lead designer Steve Polge said that half the people that work on the game prefer to play the Xbox 360 version of the game and what’s even more special is that those people can easily kick keyboard players’ butts. Polge continued by saying that Unreal Tournament 3 is basically Gears of War on crack, meaning that the game speed is much higher.

If you want to read the full story you should get your ass to the nearest store and grab OXM.

If you get it. In it Rein also says that the game is in simultaeous development for the 360 and the PC, there is no mention of the ps3. I wonder what that could mean?

could mean the PS3 version is lagging behind ‘cos Sony made it so terribly hard to develop for

Not sure what that means. I know the last interview I read mentioned that the PS3 version will have mouse/kb support, unlike the 360.

I hope to god this is nothing like Gears at all. I don’t want GoW poisoning one of my favorite multiplayer series.

They said it is everything gears is, but without the discolorful graphics. the grpahics actually look better. They said the 360 was it’s visual bar for the game.

I hate it when ps3 fanboys say the 360 is maxed out. gears looked awesome n they said this will look better then that. cant wait for gow2. journey to the center of the earth type Sh*t

It had better not be ‘like GoW w/ different chARACTERS!’. This is one of the best multiplayer series (if you pretend the XBOX ones never happend) ever and you don’t want Gears gameplay mechanics to spoil it. Potential Halo beater here perhaps?

I agree with the guy above me…

I agree with the guy above the guy above me. This needs to aim to be a halo killer, not a GOW replacement.

what’s even more special is that those people can easily kick keyboard players’ butts.

Utter bollox, not in a million years against an experienced mouse/keyboard user. If they make this cross platform, PC vs Xbox360, i will be laughing manically at the joypad users as i circle them like a vulture picking them apart without them even being able to get me in there sights. I am really looking forward to this game but i will NOT be buying it for the 360 unless they add mouse/keyboard support. I will get it on PC or PS3, and then prey it has cross platform play, as it will stop all this bullshit about joypad’s being the equal or better of Mouse/keyboard for 1st or 3rd person shoot’em ups, as any Dreamcast owner who played against Pc users in Quake 3 will testify.

Lotus, they put handicaps in place to ‘balance’ the gameplay. Otherwise, I agree about the “circle them like a vulture” part of your tirade.
From a distance, the keyboard will rape. Mid-close range the controller will rape. It all depends on that particular encounter. I guess we’ll just have to see over time what happens.

Personally, I hope it translates well (cross platofrm play). More gamers = more games to join.

Unreal series has always, for me, been better than the Halo series. From character designs, art, map level designs, weapon types, vehicles and gameplay balance. So I will be playing Unreal 3 multiplayer more than Halo 3.
I’m more interested in Halo 3 single player after playing the beta. Besides look at all rival FPS coming to 360. Unreal and Half-Life 2 will be my choice FPS this Fall but who really knows until they are released.
1) Unreal Tournament 3 - Fall 2007
2) Bio Shock - Late Summer 2007
3) Enemy Territory Quake Wars - Late Summer 2007
4) Half-Life 2 - Fall 2007
5) Team Fortress 2 - Fall 2007
6) The Darkness - Summer 2007
Of course there is more FPS, not to mention the RPG’s (Blue Dragon, Mass Effect and Lost Odyssey) and the Action/Adventure games (GTA 4, Too Human, Devil May Cry 4 and Assassin’s Creed) and you see the crazy influx of games on the way. Will they all make it out during Xmas? I don’t know, what I do know is that all the developers and publishers will be fighting for our money and time.
Yes time! Will Halo 3 keep all the masses playing like Halo 2? Personally there are too many new experiences in the games listed above to keep my TOTAL interested in the Halo or even Unreal universe.

Is the four-player co-op for the campaign? That will be a blast.

This game looks great; I just hope my pocketbook will be able to sustain all the hits it will take in the second half of 2007!
