Where is the discussion on the build quality of either system?

The 360 is an awesome machine. I’ll give it that. But I am NOT impressed with the build quality of the 360 at all. Remember that story of the PS3 that killed the 360? That says a lot right there. The ps3 is able to handle massive amounts of heat, while the 360 can’t even handle southern summer air temperatures. I live in Texas, so it gets kind of hot down here. Fact of the matter is that the 360 is built cheap and performs that way too. It actually costs LESS to make a 360 than they are being sold for! In fact, pretty much all of Sony’s products are made to withstand some serious wear and tear.

I still have an original playstation console that my mother purchased back in 1994. Guess what, it still works exactly as it should to this day. I purchased a PSP on the release date in April of 2004, and have literally beat the $h17 out of this thing. I have dropped it from 6 feet in the air onto a sloped cement parking garage ramp only to jump down, pick up the battery, put it back in, and turn it back on only to see that it worked just as it did the day I bought it. One more example is my brothers PS2.

He bought it on the launch date, and has never even cleaned it. This thing is literally caked with dust, but it still works to this day. The other thing that is pissing me off is these developers saying $h17 like”Oh, it’s too hard to develop games for the PS3. BOOHOO!!!”. OF COURSE IT HARD TO DEVELOP FOR!!!!!! When the PS2 come out they said the exact same thing! The reason that it’s hard to develop for is because there’s NOTHING else LIKE it on the face of the earth! The 360 was like that too. The only reason that you don’t hear this kind of thing about the 360 is because most of the developers on the 360 platform have some kind of affiliation with Microsoft.

The 360 uses a series of three processors to do its dirty work, while the PS3 uses a revolutionary 8 core processor that is more powerful than any mainstream processor to date. If you want proof of that, then look at the folding@home project statistics. The other major thing is the GPUs. The 360 does have a more powerful GPU, but that’s because the 360’s GPU is dedicated to processing ALL of the graphics. The RSX GPU is actually primarily used to apply textures. The Cell’s processing power is used throughout the PS3 during it’s operation.

Also, the 360 has been out longer, and developers have had a considerably long time to grasp what the 360’s hardware can do, whereas the PS3 hasn’t been out that long. Something else to think about is the price of the consoles. Yes, the PS3 is quite expensive, but then again, so is the 360. Now, you might be saying to yourself”No it isn’t. The 360 is only $300 for the core system, and only $400 for the premium.” But think about this.

In order to get the 360 up to the specs that the PS3 is at, you have to buy the premium system($400), the WiFi adapter($100), and the HD-DVD drive($200). Add all of hose together and…OMG! That’s a $700 price tag. That’s actually $100 MORE than what you could get in a single black box instead in 3 white ones! Lastly, Microsoft has a larger base than Sony does. Sony makes it’s money solely on hardware. Microsoft is a domestic market with a large footprint and is into multiple markets.

Yes, I am a Sony fan, but not because of any series like Final Fantasy (I hate RPGs), rather, I like sony because I haven’t had a SINGLE issue with their products. All of Sony’s products do exactly what they are supposed to do, and they do everything quite well. I know about too many of Microsoft’s products that don’t do, or can’t handle what Microsoft said they can. Examples could be, oh, I dunno, EVERY SINGLE ONE of their operating systems! But MS does have a good habit of slowly making everything they get their greedy hands on slightly better over time. That’s my argument, and I’m sticking to it.

However it seems not to mention the fact that as software publishers do not work exclusivly for Sony (or very little now, anyway) the only thing they are interested in is profit.

The user base of Sony’s machine is small, it costs more to code for and as such is not economically viable to be the system of choice to develop for, so until they get a decent percentage of the market it makes far more sense to use the 360 (or Wii depending on what systems are being developed for in the case of the title but even then the Wii really requires them to make use of the Wiimote so it is a more logical jump to code the 360 and port the PS3).

Lets look at this one at a time:

One word - Compression.

Lets put it this way. If you had a decent shoe collection would you buy a warehouse to house them or if they all fitted into the cupboard of your room when stacked a certain way which would you go for (obviously you will say the warehouse because you are a tit but if you look at it logically whats the point). In other words all that space and nothing to put in it (except all the jap games which will go crazy for filling it with CGI shit).

So to follow on to your argument of GTA, okay so if you had 50gb you coould fill it with massive gameplay area, but at the same time this will push up production time, which in turn pushes up production costs which always ends up being passed on to the consumer. The PS3 games are already more expensive at the moment so don’t really know if people want to spend even more.

I don’t mind paying £40 a year if it provides a robust system which is policed in some way to keep cheating pricks away and also gives me the benefits of being able to chat to my mates (with voice not text) before during and after playing a game, even if we are playing different games. You enjoy your free shitty service son, because everyone else I know with a PS3 doesn’t they still turn back on the 360 for that.

You must be an analyst of course and have insight into all the facts and figures of the industry and the understanding of how to collate this information into an accurate conclusion.

Yup the PS3 has an eyetoy, whoop whoop. The 360 has a web cam. If you think that makes a reason on it’s own for buying a system then instantly you are a tool.

360 is 1 year older than PS3, fair point, something to do with the fact that Sony royally fucked up and insited on going with an unproven media format that just jacked the price up and in no way has “already won the format war”.

It plays PS2 games? well fuck me thats more than worth the £425 alone, no point to just going out and buying a PS2 for £50 to play them on if they are that important to you. The 360 also plays Xbox games maybe not 100% but doesn’t bother me a shit as I have never bought or played one last gen game since I bought the 360 at release, so I have been enjoying the current gen 1 yr before any Sony Acolytes.

And I may be wrong but anytime a DVD goes in my 360 and is played onto my Hi-Def LCD it is displaying in 720 (or so the TV says).

So juding by all that it would seem you just open your mouth and shit falls out.
