Episodic content for GTA IV 360 only
Another day, another blow for Sony. According to Take Two’s recent Financial Results for their fiscal second quarter, scrolling down a quarter of the way will reveal a special listing for upcoming titles in fiscal year 2008, with no PS3 in sight.
“Grand Theft Auto IV - Episodic Content Xbox 360″ is what is shown, reconfirming Peter Moore’s words back at E3 2006 after it was announced that GTA IV would be coming to the 360 on day one of the game launching, and stating that there would be some exclusive content available via Xbox Live. That never ruled out the PS3 getting some other, different content, but now it seems Take Two and Rockstar have no future plans of support for the game on the PS3.
This is another plus point to Microsoft who seem to be getting developers and publishers to do whatever they want, after it is suggested that Beautiful Katamari will be an Xbox 360 exclusive. PS3 owners may well be questioning their purchase at this point.
There’s a whole other bunch of stuff included in the report, such as restructuring the business and how much money they are losing. Not to worry, Grand Theft Auto IV will still come despite Take Two losing money, that’s one thing you can count on.

And if this Episodic content is as “epic” as it has been rumoured to be (perhaps it ties in with the “Visit Vice City - $300″ billboard in the GTA IV trailer) then PS3 owners are really getting screwed. I saw Sony losing exclusives left and right as soon as they announced the complicated Cell structure and the high price point. What was Kutagari and the rest of Sony thinking? I guess that’s why he got fired…I mean…they named him “Honourary Chairman”!
..and when I said “rumoured to be”, I meant when MS reps such as Peter Moore have hinted at it being in the realm of “Liberty City Stories” size. That’s quite the epic episodic content.
Having both consoles, what would persuade me the most to buy is which version (if any) supports native 1080p resolutions….
by the current look of the game, neither will make it to 1080p.
you have a +50″ hdtv for it to make a difference? good for you lol…. but ya i doubt either will do 1080p though atleast the 360 will do 720p and 1080i properly lol
Haha wow. 1080p makes that much difference in your life?
So you’re saying that if the PS3 version runs at 1080p, but has no episodic content to follow, despite the 360 version running natively at 720p and having extra content, you’d go with the PS3?
Get real dude.
he is being real Ross.
Real Silly.
NOTE: ‘Silly’ was selected as there may be children viewing this FP
There shouldn’t be, it’s an article about GTAIV.
I have 106″ screen (via HD Projector), and I can barely tell the difference between 720p and 1080p, and see no difference whatsoever between 1080i and 1080p. This is a moot point.
like a cow’s opinion?
“Episodic content for GTA IV 360 only” Did You not take a second to think this is because PS3 is the only one the actually has room to fit GTA IV in full onto a disc…
So i dont see why this is a plus point to mircosoft…
Sorry if ive actually missed something but to me it just likes they cant fit everything onto a 360 disc so its got to come in parts thats all.
The episodic content will not be content that is already on the PS3 disc…I gaurantee that.
And nobody ever said that GTA IV COULD NOT fit on a DVD9 disc, they simply said it takes extra effort to compress it down so that it will fit.
Yep. The Episodic Content is exclusive. If it was already on the PS3 disk, it would definitely not be exclusive.
exactly… episodic content are extensions not included on retail discs
This one goes out to Damrock. There is no way RockStar would release half of a game for 360 then release the other half on the market place for additional fees. If the price point for both systems is 60 bucks, best believe both systems are getting the same game. Episodic content will be additional content. Extra. More. It has nothing to do with disc size. If they couldn’t fit it on one 360 disc then they would release it with 2 disc. It’s as easy as that.
My guess it has to do with the online service 360 provides vs ps3. Now everyone should be able to agree with out a shadow of a doubt that 360 has the better online service. It’s as easy as that.
For all the ps3 hopefuls… Man I can see the ship sinking by the day.
The LA Noir being PS3 only on that list is mildly upsetting. hopefully that will change
Dude, no worries man i bet LA Noir will come out to the 360 as well. take two needs all the money they can get and what better way to make this game for the 360 in addition to the ps3? point is gta iv and LA Noir will sell better on the 360.
“My guess it has to do with the online service 360 provides vs ps3. Now everyone should be able to agree with out a shadow of a doubt that 360 has the better online service. It’s as easy as that.”
I don’t see how that’d effect downloadable content. Online play, maybe.. but downloadable content? Please. I doubt the PS3’s service is any worse in that respect to XBOX Live in how you download content and use it.
But XBLA has more to offer than PS Network :P.
The sheer number of people who are using Xbox live compared to ps3 service. Besides the ps3 service jsut didn’t seem as organized as lives is.
YEY it just gets better and better
sweet news I’ll have to make sure I get myself a load of MS points by then
I bet it’ll be like 1800 ms points ‘cos I read that the content will add 30-40 hours of extra play time
Peter Moore announced this WAY back at E3 last year…
There is good points about what people have said but i dont understand why they dont have this extra stuff for the PS3 aswell.
All seems a little strange to me why there giving 360 extra stuff.Anyway online in time shall we all find out.
P.S people that say stuff like “The episodic content will not be content that is already on the PS3 disc…I gaurantee that.” just annoys me. You dont work on the game so how can you gaurantee stuff about the game.
“But XBLA has more to offer than PS Network ”
“The sheer number of people who are using Xbox live compared to ps3 service. Besides the ps3 service jsut didn’t seem as organized as lives is.”
But why would this decide whether someone puts content on it or not? That makes absolutely no sense.
Besides, it’s GTA content. It’d sell on either platform.
What’s likely, is MS paid to have this content exclusive, if it is indeed exclusive, and there’s no other reason to it.
more people on xbox live means a larger consumer base. that means more sales for the same invetment with live. i don’t see a reason to celebrate someone elses loss though.
Of course it does. But the content on two things rather than one equals a whole lot more sales.
I find it funny people are actually comparing Live to the PS network in the first place. Live is way beyond it with years of R&D behind it.
yeah this is nothing new peter moore announced this at E3 2006 when they announced GTA4
The new part is that its exclusive to X360. Originally they said that X360 was going to get exclusive content, as well as the PS3, both were supposed to have different DLC from one another but now, the news is that only X360 will have DLC if the above is true.
Could Sony be publishing the extra/episodic content? Take-Two might not have the money to publish this, doens’t mean Rockstar can’t create content for Sony to publish.
if sony were to publish the content, then would the whole game need to be ublished by them? what would be the point of only publishing something that only hardcore users will download. Bit of a waste of money that is
Your right Damrock I don’t work on games and it’s not a guarantee about the content. Just that the logical answer is that gta will be the same for both ps3 and xbox when first purchased off the shelf. Blu ray won’t make a difference. Any extra content will be in the form of downloadable content. Most logical answer. Also it is more then likely MS paid for the xtra content. If I had deep pockets I would too lol
I already feel like being milked out of my “precious” microsoft points and the game isn’t even out yet
When I clicked on the link to this story I was expecting to see some type of “believable” proof but I get what could have easily been an oversight? besides making such a move would be pure idiocy on the part of take two(its not a smart economic choice… at all!) they would be alienating 5 potential million buyers(does that sound like a smart choice for a company that is currently losing money?).PS If this is true this could be the beginning of the end for the PS3.
Didn’t we already know it was exclusive to the 360 since E3 last year?
I’ve read a few fanboys shouting things back and forwards about GTA IV.
Can someone with a bit of knowledge confirm if there have been any concrete rumours of differences between the games on both platforms.
I don’t mean DLC just that the choice of disc media may actually make a difference because of size.
Rockstar have stated time and again that both versions will be exactly the same, bar the DLC.
Sweet, thats all I wanted to know.
Thanks
