New details covertly emerge for Condemned 2
New details on the sequel to the excellent Condemned are emerging from all corners, since August’s OXM will have a lot more information on the game, and IGN managed to get an interview with producer David Hasle, associate multiplayer producer Tarl Raney, and lead software engineer Brian Legge. Hit the jump to find out more.
From OXM, the game will take place years after the original. Ethan Thomas, the hero from the last game, is no longer an investigator, instead spending his time at bars, drowning his sorrows, and beating off demons that he sees when hallucinating. However his partner mysteriously disappears, and so Thomas hops back to investigate what the hell has happened. SEGA promise a new hand to hand combat system, disturbing visuals, more than 30 weapons, and a multiplayer option.
The IGN interview goes a little deeper though. It is revealed that the forensic side of things has seen a radical change, with many more options the the original gave. Levels won’t be anywhere near as linear as the first game, but don’t expect GTA-style free-roaming either. They forensic parts also aren’t compulsory this time either; if you want to go and kill more people, please do. Combat too has changed dramatically. Throwing weapons at enemies is a possibility, as well as throwing the weapons at the enemy’s feet, causing them to trip up. Finishing moves are also different, with the ability to interact with the environment a lot more.
Sadly though, Greg Gruenberg will not be returning to do the voice of Thomas. Since Thomas has taken a turn for the worse and is considerably more “dark” than he was before, SEGA decided he was no longer right for the job. Apparently Gruenberg is too nice a guy to do the part now.
Anyone worried that this game will be cut down after the recent goings-on with Manhunt 2 need not worry, as IGN are re-assured that SEGA have no plans to tone down or leave out any of their ideas for the sake of the ESRB. Obviously they won’t make an AO-rated game, but it will still be damn violent.
Multiplayer is also briefly touched on, although no concrete details were laid out. SEGA plan to get the multiplayer to do what the single player does and create a memorable experience. It won’t be tacked on the end like The Darkness. There is also little difference in developing for either the 360 or PS3, and both games will be identical. They stated in the interview that they have no plans for using the Sixaxis control.
Head over to IGN for all the interview details. If this is your sort of game, the interview is a good read and will no doubt have many of you gagging for more. Spring 2008 seems a long way off right now.

WOW
Cant wait any more for this game
This is my most wanted 360 game after finishing everything in the 1st game
multiplayer sounds promising, a fps without shooting should be some interesting matches.
absolutely loved the melee of the original.
there’s no such thing as an FPS without shooting, because FPS = First Person shooter
FPHHC?
First Person Hand-to-hand Combat?
They could call it a First Person Adventure, like Metroid Prime.
tou mean FPHTHC
You mean FPHTHC
the original is one the most “enjoyable” (if you can call it that) single player experiences available on the 360. I loved it. Can’t wait for the sequel.
2nd’ed.
there’s no such thing as an FPS without shooting, because FPS = First Person shooterwell duh..
you clearly haven’t played the game have you? it was called a fps where you only occasionally have a gun (or shotgun or semi-machine gun but all with a very limited amount of bullits) and you need to survive using objects (lead pipe, sledge hammer, fire axe, 2×4 and several others) and the trusty taser
Behind the pc it plays exactly like any other regular fps, as does it behind the 360 yet with the melee you have limited range
I know that it also has guns but the multiplayer part couldn’t be considered FPS if it had no guns though
el scorpio you just gottt myy bals on your face
