First in-game Rock Band screens rock the net

Let’s recap briefly as to what we have learnt about the game so far. Online integrated co-op career? Check. Deep avatar customization and a chance to rock it out like your badass idol? Double check. Guitar peripheral that actually looks like its real-life model? Check. Fret boards neatly laid out across the screen? Get out your trusty pens and tick this one off your lists, as CVG have got their trembling hands on the game, releasing world exclusive Rock Band in-game screenshots along the way. Without further ado, here are two out of many more screens found on CVG.

As you can see for yourselves, the screen will be populated by three snazzy fret boards situated on the bottom part, with the guitar player on the left, the drummer in the middle, and the bass player on the right hand side. The lead-singer will have to look attentively at the top part of the screen, as that is where the lyrics will be scrolling across with a little arrow leaving behind a dazzling trail closely above.

While all of this is pretty easy to make out from the screenshots, there are a couple of things that we cannot be entirely sure of before the developer elaborates on it further. For one, if you look closely at the drummer’s fret board, you’ll notice that there are two different variants of a note. What this most likely means is that one note will signify a normal hit on the drums, whereas the other will involve stepping on the pedal at the exact same moment. Another interesting bit that doesn’t say much by itself is the half-coloured disc sitting right next to the singer’s multiplier. Keep in mind that this is just speculation on our part.

With the current abundant amount of tasty details on Rock Band shooting from all sides, one has to wonder what will set Activision’s Guitar Hero III up to the par with Harmonix’s behemoth hype-wise. Contrary to GH III’s much revealed contents, its rival developer has still yet to unveil the drum set and microphone peripherals which are sure to heighten the already skyrocketed hype surrounding Rock Band. And as we all know, hype plays a hefty role when it comes to a game’s appeal and, consequently, its sales. The one and only obstacle that Harmonix faces now is pricing that is still kept tightly under wraps.

Which rhythm game do you think will prevail come this fall; Neversoft’s Guitar Hero III or Harmonix’s Rock Band?

i’m taking a wait and see approach on this one. had to admit that rock band does sound better on paper - we’ll see.

I agree, this could suck or be great. The price of it all will play a big role. Has anyone got a UK (ÂŁ) price for it?

Pricing is as follows

* Rock Band Bundle - $199.99 (The Rock Band Bundle for the Xbox 360 includes the game, wireless guitar, drums and microphone.
* Rock Band Game - $59.99
* Rock Band Drum Set - $79.99
* Rock Band Microphone - $29.99
* Rock Band Wireless Fender Guitar Controller - $79.99

No its not. Nothing has been confirmed yet so don’t believe anything some site like GameStop or EB posted.

well if my GH guitar works with it whats 50 bucks for the game or w/e
but if i gotta buy another guitar for an near replica game of the one i already got it is not happening, but i will def be gettin GH III just because i already know it will be good and it wont require any worrying or guessing on my part, cause 150-200 dollars is to much money to guess about spending on a game i pretty much already own

You can’t use the guitar hero guitar. Rock band is featuring 10 frets. Guitar hero only has 5.

Isn’t the middle in fact the bass and the right the drums. Bass has four strings. And the drum has 5 buttons (if you include the foot pedal).

i was wondering the same thing too!

Yea, that’s definitely it.

Read my speculation ;) . The fact that there’s two different notes for the drummer’s fret board could mean that one of the two will involve tapping a pad + stepping on the pedal simultaneously.

bass doesn’t always have four strings, and a lot of songs use a five string bass, also if you look at the drum(middle) there are two different notes, one sort of looks like a cymbal… just my view on it

The song in both of the above screen caps is Nirvana’s “Nevermind”

I also heard something around those prices Andy. They sound like either exactly what I heard or around it. Either way, those are the approximate or exact prices, RapidRunner, sorry to break it to you.

Also, the fret buttons are exactly that, frets. What does that have to do with how many strings a bass has? The original GH has 5 frets, guitar have 6 strings. Also, I think the article has it right, with drums in the middle and bass on the right. Drums are probably gonna be bass, snare, hi-hat, and cymbal just to keep it simple.

And I’m fairly sure the GH III guitars will work with RB, despite the 5 extra solo buttons, since the solo buttons are the same 5 colors as the normal ones, so instead of switching to the solo buttons, you could just keep playing the normal ones.
