Golden Axe and Sonic on XBLA tomorrow
It took nearly a year since first announced during E3 2006, but it appears tomorrow’s edition of Xbox Live Arcade Wednesday will be bringing us Golden Axe. Another game might also be released simultaneously, which would be that other old-school SEGA classic Sonic the Hedgehog we’ve been waiting for since its implicit announcement through getting an ESRB rating.
The guys at Xbox360Achievements got some pretty solid info on both of these games releasing tomorrow, including Xbox.com links to the actual achievements. Since that means people are playing them on the public Xbox Live network, it rather solidly supports the claim of tomorrow’s release for both games. Prices and download sizes are obviously unknown right now, but it’d be relatively safe to assume they follow good old retro-game re-release rules of maximum 50MB download size and 400 MSP pricing, although they might turn out to be 800 MSP if sufficiently updated.

That title is second on my most wanted XBLA list with R-Type being first. I spent tons on the arcades during my high school days playing that. When we got bored of killing death adder, we’d then have 2player duels
Given that we’ve hardly heard anything about the title, let alone screenies, I hope it’s a good conversion.

ok, ok, I’m a crusty gamer who’s been playing since Combat on the Atari 2600 (though it was called a VCS back then).
Hold on to your spleens you youngsters, it was just a bit of fun.
For the record Golden Axe is shit and always has been. Sonic, well, so-so I guess. It doesn’t have the impact nowadays that it had back then.
I’m not buying either of them. Too easy to play through emulation so I can’t really justify a purchase to any reasonable extent.
Both of them are worth 400 I think. 2 good retro releases.
