E3: DiRT sequel on the way
When a game sells mighty well, there’s bound to be a sequel in the works. This common statement also holds for Codemasters’ Colin McRae: DiRT, since the UK based developer recently announced that a sequel to the critically acclaimed off-road racing game is already quite far into development for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
PS3 owners will get to test the first game before its September release.
If it hadn’t been for the poor online multiplayer, DiRT would’ve been an instant classic for its beautifully rendered visuals and very solid off-road gameplay. Paying attention to fan feedback, Codemasters is promising that DiRT 2 will feature a greatly improved online mode, which Matthew Horsman, DiRT’s chief game designer, in discussion with IGN touted as “a big surprise”.
Before we leave you speculating as to what the big surprise might be, PS3 users will be happy to learn that a DiRT demo is being prepped for release before the actual game hits retail stores in September. If the 360 demo is anything to go by, then PS3 fans will get a thorough taste before making up their minds as to whether or not it’s worth shelling out those sweet 60 bucks for.

I’m pleased that they’ll be making another DiRT game. I LOVE the first game and would definately buy any future ones =)

How did u work that out? the Dirt 1 demo is out on ps3 before september. But we already have the full game so how did u work out you are playing Dirt before us Xbox 360 owners?

Is DIRT really all that great? I wasn’t at all impressed with the demo.
Put it this way, i’ve got both Forza and DiRT and i’m enjoying DiRT alot more at the moment. Definately worth the money, and its only 24.99 on play.com if your a UK’er.
I also am having WAY more fun playing DIRT than Forza2.
Forza2, For me, Was a let down.
DIRT on the other hand is all I expected and more. DIRT 2 is already bought. (so to speak)
Yea i think forza has great depth but DiRT is amazingly fun and addictive!
Not the mention the “great….” support for the steering wheel…… Ever tried steering DIRT with a wheel instead of the controller ?? A tank is even better to steer….
Yeah the controls on DiRT are so responsive it doesn’t really need a steering wheel. Controller works fine for me.

And back to topic. Bought this and Forza, but sorry just can’t take it after the 60fps of Forza, keep thinking my car is taking a fit in this game. However that is my only gripe.
Improve the frame rate, improve the game and I am onboard for the sequel.
I think the steering in DiRT is rather bad, the cars don’t seem to have any weight…it seems like they just “float”
I agree to a point but I was putting some of that down to the frame rate issue.
One minute you are pointing one way, turn the wheel and in the blink of an eye you have came round 70 degrees and are heading off a cliff.

Yes, the physics need to be tweaked a bit. The cars are floaty and prone to lots of fishtailing. Other than that, I rented this game and was VERY surprised at how much I liked it. This is a solid title and I look forward to the sequel.
Lets hope we get a proper co driver voice in the next game and not a crappy american one.
