Microsoft drops X07 event

With Peter Moore out the door, Microsoft just keep on piling on the shock announcements. The European showcase event for this year X07 has been scrapped. Why? How? Who did it? Find out all the details inside and then vent your fury…perhaps.

Aaron Greenberg, the product manager for the XBOX 360 and XBOX Live has revealed that the European event X07 will not be taking place. The ‘X’ events (which have taken place since X01 in…2001) are an annual showcase of all things XBOX held by Microsoft in Europe. They provide the press with another opportunity to try out new and upcoming XBOX products (software and hardware) and report back with glowing praise. Now however, Microsoft have scrapped the event for this year.

Speaking on the Squad XP podcast, product manager for XBOX 360 and XBOX Live, Aaron Greenberg stated:

“There is not a real X07 this year but I think that we will figure out some way to talk about 2008 some time at a different event or a different type of programme.”

What’s he chattering on about then? Lord only knows, but the lack of an ‘X’ event leaves a big hole in the XBOX calender. Hopefully we’ll still be getting some big announcements and new game details later one this year. We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed.

To be honest, X06 was a week after TGS last year. I know Japan isn’t big on Xbox, but they could make some annoucnements there.

It does stink though. They made some big announcements at X06.

I seriously doubt that I could care any less.

Make the products, test the products and then release the products. Correct any errors/flaws and mistakes.

Beyond that, I don’t really care.

What good is an event to hype the new stuff, when the current stuff is so full of bugs and problems?

That’s my opinion, but to each their own.

There is nothing to announce (as I mentioned before), they have zero, zilch, nada NOTHING NEW up their sleeves. Why waste a lot of money on a press event that can only result in bad press ? E3 was already a disaster for Microsoft from a marketing/pr point of view.

And to be honest, imho M$ is close to their ultimate goal: the brand is accepted in our living rooms, we pay regularly, they deliver video on demand and soon iptv and THAT is all they want. Games were just the foot they needed in the door. With Moore gone now it’s not unlikely that the gaming business will lose much of it’s momentum over the next 1-2 years and the platform will change into what Microsoft envisioned many years ago already.

Nothing of this is really a surprise, other than maybe the timing of events. Enjoy it while it lasts, I know I will.

This is what happens when you have to eat $1 Billion. Me thinks Mzoft will be recouping the lost money from the faulty (every) 360 by scrapping every event they have to fund. *buys PS3*

Hahahahah…I just realized…wasn’t ALL the talk when the PS3 came out that the controller’s could explode and the system would become incredibly overheated? I’m really thinking about jumping ship back to Sony. Blu-Ray for the win?
