Core model quietly being removed?
It seems retailers (well, one so far) have finally fallen out of love with the Core package. Best Buy are now no longer going to stock the Core once it sells out, if the evidence Joystiq managed to get hold of is true.
The sheet, as can be seen above, clearly shows Best Buys’ intentions. Below the description of the Core hardware SKU, there is the word ‘Deleted’ which, according to Joystiq’s anonymous source, means “it is being taken out of the system.” There is also an out of stock reading, recorded on the 29th July, with the second image showing a pref code “y.” The source says “this means replenishment of this item is not expected.”
Microsoft had only last week said to Joystiq that the “Xbox 360 Core remains an important member of the Xbox 360 family.” After this latest piece of news, a MS spokesperson still insisted nothing had changed since last week. Things are getting suspicious here.
Of course this may just be a Best Buy preference, as in a business decision has been reached. The Core pack probably doesn’t sell nearly as well as the Elite or the Premium console, so it makes sense to free up some shelf space for other things. This is purely rumour and speculation for the time being, but it will be interesting to see if other stores start following suit.
Who the hell still buys the Core pack anyway?

i buy it
when people are taking these early retail stock or flyer pictures they need to learn to focus a camera.
“Who the hell still buys the Core pack anyway?”
Word.
yeah I think it’s not worth it as you need storage anyway. Memory units cost too much and add in the HDD & accessories and you pay more than the premium
i got a core package, il still be getting a hard drive
but at the time i wasnt interested in xbox live
so a memory unit seemed like a good idea
I picked up a core system when my original was in the shop and ended up being held up in Texas for an extra week.
Normally I use it as a travel box but right now a friend of mine has it since his box is being repaired.
i was forced to get a core system at launch, because there happened to be quite a few available, and i was told about six months ago by my local ebgames manager that i had just gotten the very last core (my fourth 360) they would stock at that location, cause they were getting fazed out. they still have them on the shelf now. maybe it is happening for real now. maybe.
I worked for best buy for two years and am familiar with this paper work. It could be that they’re not carrying it any more, but it could also just mean that they havn’t renewed the sku’s “stock until” date. Take this with a very large grain of salt.
I sell quite a few of them in my shop, as many of my customers don’t use Xbox Live, and so don’t need a premium version.
I bet this item is being deleted due to future price changes.Maybe they are remaking new skus for the systems. The Premiums just got deleted from my store(Costco).Waiten to see the Elite bundle drop
in price.I bet the price will definitely drop for the season.
I bought one 2 weeks ago. My old one kinda broke…. I didn’t get the rings of death… it still turns on…and media center still works, as do my arcade games… it just won’t boot up disks. I already have a 120gb drive, so it made sense for me.
Cant believe you guys post images of blurry out of focus bits of print paper, that could well be from anywhere really and doesnt prove a thing.
