Target also not stocking the Core anymore
The Core package tried so hard to be liked by the gaming world. It was always last on the shelf when the 360 was in short supply, meaning that you managed to grab a 360 console despite the limited number of them at launch. And yet, no-one really embraced it. Wired controllers were last-gen, there was no funky chrome on the disc tray, and there was no HDD. As consumers lost interest with the Core, it now seems more and more retailers are doing the same, as a screenshot of Target’s system reveals that the company have no more plans to re-stock the lonely package.

You are not drunk, someone really is that bad with a camera
The rather blurred screenshot above shows that in the top right of the screen the Core’s status (it’s a Core because of the price) is “discontinued”. If you squint, you should be able to make it out.
This goes hand in hand with the recent news that Best Buy will also no longer be stocking the Core SKU. Joystiq are also told that several other chains have not had stock of the Core for quite some time. Whether Microsoft officially announce it or not, the evidence is fast-becoming something to listen to, as all fingers are pointing to the exit for the Core.
Surprisingly, there are still a number of Core packs on the shelf here in the UK. Whether or not this is because there are no plans for HDMI ports to become standard over here or not is anyone’s guess; perhaps the wait will be slightly longer for us, again.
We are all sorry Mr. Core, you just aren’t what we had hoped.

alright didnt microsoft already deny the fact that the Core isnt going anywhere and is part of the family and always will when that Circuit City thing saying they supposidly were getting rid of the Cores too.
Microsoft may continue to make Cores but that doesn’t mean that stores MUST carry them. As a store, Best Buy and others as well reserve the right not to carry any product they wish. The only way they would be FORCED to carry the Core is if they were under contract from Microsoft stating they MUST carry the Core for a certain numbers of years. Which I can tell you rarely if ever happens in retail due to the fact of technology changing as quick as it does and the better business sense of stores like Best Buy. Because at this point let’s face it, Circuit City is close to bankrupt and they won’t be around very much longer.
not like anybody has the core
“Surprisingly, there are still a number of Core packs on the shelf here in the UK. Whether or not this is because there are no plans for HDMI ports to become standard over here or not is anyone’s guess;”
premium 360’s do not have hdmi either. i do not understand this reference.
The CORE is a failure and MS just needs to admit it and get rid of it. It was a money grubbing idea that didn’t work.
Bundle the core with a 20GB hard drive for $300 and call it a day when they are all sold out.
They all need to drop the price of that ridiculous 120GB hard drive. MS and its money grubbing techniques aren’t work in the gaming industry.
I agree on the 120GB hard drive. I want to buy one but the high price tag just makes me hold off.
its sad that i got a 160GB HDD for my PC weeks ago for 39.99$ but 120GB is near 5 times the price
the 120GB HDD is a laptop hard drive, go price a 120GB hard drive for a laptop and it’s about the same price.
