Hexic 2 & Ecco the Dolphin on XBLA this Wednesday
Xbox Live Arcade lovers are sure to rejoice at the recently announced news that this week, there will two games coming to the XBLA instead of just one. Firstly, Carbonated Games is releasing a sequel to their addictive XBLA launch title, Hexic HD, which came free on all Xbox 360 consoles. Unfortunately for anybody who enjoyed this game, Hexic 2 obviously isn’t going to free. Secondly, SEGA is bringing the 1992 classic Ecco the Dolphin to the Xbox Live Arcade.
First game up for this week is Carbonated Games’ Hexic 2. If you enjoyed the original, you will be able to enjoy the extremely addictive game over Xbox Live in Battle Mode, and try out brand new challenges. The game has been rated E for Everyone by the ESRB, and will cost you 800 Microsoft Points if you decide to buy it. Here is a description of the game, as well as some of the game’s features.
Building on the success of Hexic HD, Hexic 2 brings all-new pieces to the board and a new multiplayer mode, so you can compete with friends in your living room or over Xbox LIVE. The basic gameplay is straightforward, familiar, and addictiveâjust spin a trio of hexes to create a group of three or more matching colors, or build a formation of hexes to create more advanced pieces. Whether you want a relaxing puzzle break or a frantic race against the clock, Hexic 2 has you covered!
- Acclaimed developer: Hexic 2 is another challenging puzzle hit from Alexey Pajitnov, the original creator of Tetris.
- New challenges: All-new special pieces, different formations, and modes keep Hexic 2 challenging even for the veteran Hexic player.
- Multiplayer competition: Amp up the gaming excitement playing multiplayer on the same console or over Xbox LIVE (up to two players) in Battle Mode.
- Easy to learn: The gameplay is straightforward, approachable, and highly addictive.
- Stunning visuals: The game is rendered in full 3-D with stunning special effects such as reflections, glow, and spectacular highlights.
The second Xbox Live Arcade title for this week is SEGA’s 1992 classic Ecco the Dolphin. This has also been given the E for Everyone rating by the ESRB, so there is no need to worry about the kids not being allowed to play it. Unlike Hexic 2, however, Ecco the Dolphin will only cost you 400 Microsoft Points if you do decide to buy the game. Here is a description of the game, as well as some of the game’s features.
Gamers can also travel through time this Wednesday with Ecco the Dolphin (SEGA), a fun, whimsical update of the classic undersea exploration game featuring an online leaderboard that tracks âBest Time,â and includes enhanced graphics and sound.
- Huge world to explore: Over 25 giant underwater levels of fighting action and puzzle-solving.
- Intriguing storyline: Solve the mystery of the Vortex and the fate of your dolphin family.
- Real-world movement: Knife through the waters and flip above the waves with animated motions created from real dolphins.
- Classic gameplay: All the classic gameplay from the original console game now brought to the next-gen world of Xbox 360.
Are you interested in spending your Microsoft Points on either of these two games?

I really do like the first Hexic, but unless this one is significantly different, I will not get it. As for Ecco the Dolphin, that one has be intrigued. I never did get to play it, but I remember it generating a lot of positive reviews.
Good thing I saved some of my points. I’ll be picking up both of these.
i really wish hexic 2 could be…free…for me…or ill pee…or maybe just kick someones ass
Both good games. Im getting Hexic2 and skipping ecco
meh ill pass on hexic 2 but ive never got the chance to play ecco also but i was hoping that streets of rage 2 would be coming out this week as i really want to play the whole sor series bring sor quickly sega!!!
Holy shit, Ecco the Dolphin!!! That was waaaaaay back, o man! That game freaked me out for some reason back then, I’ll have to check it out.
I actually found it to be quite creepy when I was a kid. Not sure why, now, but there was just something… sinister about the whole thing.
I thought so too :O Gonna be checking out both of these, possibly buying both.
Yea, exactly! I’m glad I’m not the only one feeling that way.
For some reason I remember getting stuck at a certain point in Ecco and not being able to advance. This was before the wonderful world of gamefaqs (and other forums). Regardless, this is just more XBL Arcade CRAP and not worth any money at all. “Hexic” is your typical hackneyed puzzle trash that you can easily find on any two-bit flash game website, and Ecco can be easily re-lived on the console emulator of your choice for the nominal investment of about 512k in hard drive space. Either alternative is preferrable to wasting several dollars on “Microsoft points,” don’t ya think?
Yup had the same problem with Echo, had that annoying habit that older games have of requiring pixel perfect button pushes to do something correct, just kept giving the impression there was nothing to be done and you were stuck.
Had the same problem with the dreamcast 3D version, but at least that looked a whole lot nicer, amazing at the time, probably look shit if I seen it again now.
I always used to get stuck at that fucking octopus thing. So annoying. I proper love this game, used to just swim about for hours on end with no pupose whatsoever. Good times.
booo more bullshit. ill be holdin on to my points again this week……
anymore crap games you want me to pay for microsoft? how about do what sony is doing by releasing original games to download, not just really old games that i feel ripped for paying for, i mean, live is great but if there is one thing i like about the PSN its the original games
